Bryan Wright<p>An ambush bug on a purple aster. I hope I haven't posted this before, but its one of my favorite pictures. These asters are in bloom now.</p><p><a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/ambushbug" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>ambushbug</span></a> <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/Hemiptera" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Hemiptera</span></a> <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/insects" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>insects</span></a> <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/arthropods" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>arthropods</span></a> <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/photography" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>photography</span></a></p>
Bryan Wright<p>A baby ambush bug sitting on a blackberry. John Reed Pavan<p>This is probably the nymph form of a Pennsylvania ambush bug (Phymata pennsylvanica). Normally, these are so well camouflaged that even when you&#39;re looking directly at them, and know what you&#39;re looking at it&#39;s hard to get your brain to register what it is. However, this one decided to sit on top of a black wire fence instead of a flower or leaf.</p><p><a href="https://photog.social/tags/nymph" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>nymph</span></a> <a href="https://photog.social/tags/PhymataPennsylvanica" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>PhymataPennsylvanica</span></a> <a href="https://photog.social/tags/ambushbug" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>ambushbug</span></a> <a href="https://photog.social/tags/nature" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>nature</span></a> <a href="https://photog.social/tags/wildlife" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>wildlife</span></a> <a href="https://photog.social/tags/bugs" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>bugs</span></a> <a href="https://photog.social/tags/Insects" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>Insects</span></a> <a href="https://photog.social/tags/entomology" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>entomology</span></a> <a href="https://photog.social/tags/macro" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>macro</span></a> <a href="https://photog.social/tags/ultramacro" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>ultramacro</span></a> <a href="https://photog.social/tags/centralpark" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>centralpark</span></a> <a href="https://photog.social/tags/canonphotography" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>canonphotography</span></a> <a href="https://photog.social/tags/luminarneo" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>luminarneo</span></a></p>
John Carlson<p>I’m impressed with the camouflage that an <a href="https://med-mastodon.com/tags/AmbushBug" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>AmbushBug</span></a> can achieve, sitting on a flower awaiting a busy bee. Sometimes I only see the bugs after spitting a bee, and wondering why the bee is sitting so still on a flower.</p>
