"Across 1520 species of birds, higher temperatures are associated with longer wing bones, as predicted by Allen's Rule... we interpret the positive relationship between temperature and wing-bone length to reflect increased demand for heat dissipation in warmer climates. Our findings highlight the role of thermoregulation in shaping even the most critical features of vertebrate anatomy."

"Interaction with ants has been recorded in 1122 bird species (11.2% of extant species) belonging to 131 families widely distributed across the globe and the avian phylogeny. On the other hand, 47 genus of ants (14.4% of extant genus) belonging to eight subfamilies interact with birds. Interactions include competition, antagonism (either ant–bird mutual predation or parasitism) and living together commensally or mutualistically."

This beautiful Florida resident, the Great Egret (Ardea alba) with wings still outstretched, has just touched down on a wooden pylon at a dock on the bay. They are such graceful birds, especially when in flight and their white feathered wings always remind me of angels.
