Loved listening to the bird song in Kelvibgrove Square in the West End of Glasgow this morning. It's mostly the high-pitched squeaking of a family of newly fledged long-tailed tits.

A peaceful #morningWalk with glowing skies and #birdsong ( there’s a car driving behind me for the last part) #predawn #ottawa
For your listening enjoyment, here are eight seconds of baby sparrows chirping in a hidden nest in the eaves above our front door. Happy Spring!
some of my new music has been playing on @trevlad - the latest track is from the album 'in the infinite'
My mum told me about an app that listens out for #birds and then identifies them from their #birdsong. I knew there were a lot of birds here, but during a ten minute period at the weekend it identified all of these!
It then plays back whatever you want it to, so you can learn to identify the birds by ear.
The app is called Merlin. It’s free. It’s my new favourite thing. http://merlinbirdid.com
Here is the recording of the courtship calls.

Here is a Pine Bunting I recorded in #Mongolia. These where found almost anywhere on our trip.
The song is very similar to the Yellow Hammer.

Heute mal mein minimales Setup für #birding by #bike ausprobiert. War ein toller Ausflug ins Ostragehege in #Dresden
Viele Nachtigallen gehört und Stare und Jungtiere an einer Bruthöhle beobachten können.
Konnte auch eine schöne Tonaufnahme von einer Nachtigall machen.

30 seconds of life in a typical English wood. I don't know whether it counts as an ancient wood. It's called Martinshaw because they let the pigs in to graze after St Martin's day (11th November) back when the village had a three field system. It was heavily planted with pine in the 1920s and is now being managed to encourage native broadleaved trees. In the 60s(?) the M1 motorway bisected it.
Its so familiar to me as we walk the dog here every day, but this morning I suddenly noticed my surroundings, especially hearing the bird song (even against the background hum of the motorway)
Sound up.

Multimedia Postcard.
A variety of bird sounds here, but listen for 3 repetitions of the catbird’s call: “Mrowww!”
A not-so-silent Yellow-throated Warbler we tracked by its sweet descending #birdsong with sharper end notes.
