Of course after finding that #BBCMaster video again, YouTube thinks that I should see someone who was not even yet born in the 20th century going on about the woes of typing in PETSCII copied from computer magazine listings. (-:

It's not in fact an experience that I can relate to. I loaded/saved PET programs from/to tape, and never had a C64.

Come to think of it; you don't see many of the #retrocomputing crowd using #cassettes, do you?

Retrocomputers! You haven't had the complete experience until you've accidentally unplugged the headphone jack and listened to the code. No, it doesn't sound like modem handshaking.

On the day the #Maxell blank #cassettes arrived I tried to see if if the new-to-me #Pioneer CT-300 #cassette player from the #80s still records fine.
It's going to need some work. The seller sadly somewhat "oversold" its working condition. Fortunately it's fairly easy to find replacement belts, I just need to wait a bit.
I like how this photo came out though 😀

My nephew Eric is the proprietor of Geology Records, a Wisconsin label that releases one or two cassettes a year in small runs of 50 to 100 tapes. As Eric says, music is a “healing force”.

Oh heyyyyyy … it’s officially #BandcampFriday in the US!

And @hilljam & I have just launched the pre-sale for 80s kids.

And not only the #vinyl , #cassettes , and #CDs

But also tees, tanks, and WALKMANS.

Ya heard me! Walkmans.

If you’ve been thinking about getting first dibs on 80s kids goodies, today’s a great day to do it.

THANK YOU, fedi friends!

Perhaps Mastodon can suggest stuff for me about #audio #archiving.

On a technological level I know what I'm doing (codecs, cables, tape mechanisms, etc.) but I'm struggling with making decisions.

I have a load of old type 1 #cassettes that I want to archive. I have the hardware to do it in high quality but I cannot make up my mind what to archive them as.

FLAC seems pointless given the quality of the source material but I cannot decide what is a sensible compromise between storage and faff!

You’d be hard pressed to find a bigger fan of the I.R.S. R.E.M. records than yours truly.
Dead Letter Office has eluded me on vinyl, so when i saw this cassette version today, I jumped on it.

Filled with a slew of covers (including THREE Lou Reed penned songs), I love it for the b-sides from the singles released between Murmur and Life’s Rich Pageant.
