In the Heavens / In Cielo

On my travels I ended up taking a detour to a church yesterday. I had never been to before and out of the corner of my eye I spotted the moon and the cross peeking through this little angle in the arch. It was hard to get everything into frame - this is the best I could do! 😂

Via dell'Archiginnasio

On your left there is Palazzo dell'Archiginnasio and on your right, a sliver of the Basilica to San Petronio.
Construction started on the Basilica in 1390 - alla Sagrada Familia style - they were still building it in 1514 when a new architect was brought on to build the dome. Legend has it that Pope Pius IV halted the construction of the "megalomaniac dream" and encouraged the building of the Archiginnasio.
The Archiginnasio is one of the most important buildings in Bologna. It was the main hub of the University. It now houses the Anatomical Theatre and The Archeological Museum.
We got the Archiginnasio but the Basilica has never been finished. 😂

Two Italian churches…

- The neoclassical San Simeone Piccolo in #Venezia

- The Baroque Chiesa di San Carlo in #Ferrara

I’m kind of torn between continuing to work on San Simeone or just quit while I’m ahead. Maybe add some detail to the sky or the lagoon?

And I just noticed that I’ve lost my History of Art and Architecture book from college. Maybe it’s in a box somewhere.
