The new tariffs imposed on 57 target countries, territories and blocs include rates of 20% on the EU, 26% on India and 49% on Cambodia."

"These countermeasures can be suspended at any time, should the US agree to a fair & balanced negotiated outcome," the European Commission said in a statement.

#Trump already responded to Beijing's counter-#tariffs announced last week, by nearly doubling duties on Chinese imports. In response to that, #China said it would impose 84% tariffs on US goods.

The #EU will launch its first countermeasures against #Trump's tariffs next week, the bloc's members agreed on Wed, joining #China & #Canada in retaliating & escalating a global #trade conflict.

The approval came on the day that Trump's "reciprocal" tariffs on the EU & dozens of countries took effect, including massive 104% duties on China, extending his tariff onslaught & spurring more widespread selling across #markets.

Tariffs of 104% can only "scratch" the economy of China. In 2024, China's exports to the U.S. were approximately $438.9 billion, according to estimates from the United States Trade. That is 13.3% of all Chinese exports.

Even if exports halved, China would lose just 7% of total exports. Chinese government could easily make that up with state aid and exports to new markets.

Chinese Foreign Ministry today issued a warning to Washington:

"If the U.S. decides not to care about the interests of the U.S. itself, China and the rest of the world, and is determined to fight a tariff and trade war, China’s response will continue to the end."

"Sooooo, because of Trump, everything you buy that says "made in China" will now cost you 104% more.

MAGA hats are made in China, so you know... "

Business Insider · China slaps 84% tariffs on US imports as trade battle escalatesBy Huileng Tan

#China retaliates with new 84% #tariffs on the #US as global #markets fall

China on Wednesday announced an additional 50% retaliatory tariff on all #UnitedStates imports, bringing the total tariff level to 84%.

The measures are a response to #Trump's latest round of tariffs, which went into effect overnight, & include a 104% levy on Chinese goods.

Trump’s 104% tariffs have backfired spectacularly, as China retaliates with crushing 84% duties on US goods. Washington's 'protectionism' is just a euphemism for shooting its own economy in the foot. While US corporations scramble, China stands unbowed, exposing the US as being all bluster and no strategy. The empire’s tariffs are a suicide note signed in ink made of arrogance.
