bookandswordblog<p>A few years ago book historian Erik Kwakkel blogged about the oldest surviving printed advertisement from England <a href="https://medievalbooks.nl/2019/01/24/the-oldest-surviving-printed-advertisement-in-english-london-1477/" rel="nofollow noopener" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">medievalbooks.nl/2019/01/24/th</span><span class="invisible">e-oldest-surviving-printed-advertisement-in-english-london-1477/</span></a> <a href="https://scholar.social/tags/bookHistory" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>bookHistory</span></a> <a href="https://scholar.social/tags/codicology" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>codicology</span></a> <a href="https://scholar.social/tags/incunabula" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>incunabula</span></a> <a href="https://scholar.social/tags/glam" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>glam</span></a></p>
Jeff<p>Does anyone on the fediverse know enough <a href="https://social.rights.ninja/tags/Armenian" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Armenian</span></a> to translate this page from my family bible?</p><p>Also, any religious scholars who might be able to tell me about what's on these pages?</p><p>Boosts very welcome so I can reach people in <a href="https://social.rights.ninja/tags/Scholar" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Scholar</span></a> and <a href="https://social.rights.ninja/tags/Codicology" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Codicology</span></a> circles.</p><p>Edit:</p><p>Some additional context has been added in replies, but for those wondering about age:</p><p>"The oldest leaves I think are 11th century, the majority of the leaves look like 14th-16th century […]"</p>
Mark Saltveit<p><span class="h-card"><a href="https://a.gup.pe/u/histodons" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">@<span>histodons</span></a></span> OK, clearly there is interest in trying to rebuild something like RetroReveal. What I need from you all is some idea in how you used it with manuscripts (where were not the primary use.) </p><p>Especially re: color spaces. You know how RR had those different filters, like RGBW, YQ1Q2, YUV_Y, LSHLab, etc.? Which did you use with MSS, and did you ever customize a color space? Post here or email marksaltveit at gmail. Mark Saltveit<p>Say, <a href="https://mastodonapp.uk/tags/histodons" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>histodons</span></a>, is anyone familiar with RetroReveal (RIP), and in particular has anyone tried to recreate it from the underlying open source software? </p><p>I'm looking at doing that, but I don't need to reinvent any wheels and am happy to compare notes. <span class="h-card"><a href="https://a.gup.pe/u/histodons" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">@<span>histodons</span></a></span> <a href="https://mastodonapp.uk/tags/RetroReveal" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>RetroReveal</span></a> <a href="https://mastodonapp.uk/tags/palaeography" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>palaeography</span></a> <a href="https://mastodonapp.uk/tags/codicology" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>codicology</span></a> </p><p>If you don't know this tool, it uses image processing techniques to produce pseudo-multispectral images from existing photos. Very useful for reading faded or damaged manuscripts.</p>
