#Crafters - What are your thoughts on these kinds of really obviously #AI generated printed #fabric?

They really annoy me and anger me.

(pls no hate on Dalston Fabric Mill they're a good store and I actually saw these prints in person at the craft show at the NEC last month too)

I've been here and there while travelling through social media in my craftroom, with all my dolls, one feet in the garden and the other one in the woods. Landed here a few days ago with a bit of doubt, but with curiosity (and probably hope deep down in disbelieving heart). I've landed in a whole new world.

Over the years online I've been gradually surrounded by more and more witches - our interests meet at some point. All kinds of witches. Interesting, weird, funny, smart, woo-woo, enchanting, theatrical, mesmerizing, highly educated, intuitive, helpful, friendly, dominating, almost aetheric and almost too serious, some deeply grounded, some flying high on their brooms, some just playing around and others just growing their wings. Readers, forest dwellers, potion brewers, shop keepers, snake oil sellers, tea spillers, servants of many different gods, researchers, crafters, bards, book keepers, story tellers, and so on. I could write a love song to all of them.

Here it feels like I'm finding the kind I feel in my bones. The ones with pebbles and sticks in their pockets. Those who form relationships with their surroundings. Those who observe. Those who care. Those who listen to slight changes in the air. Those who don't put up a show for others, but practice what they preach. Those who don't stand in ceremonial dresses (oh, I love the confidence of a ceremonial dress, I just don't have one), but sit with plants on their kness planting, replanting, checking, harvesting, silently communicating. Those who put heart, thought and good intention into their crafts. Those who read nature as a metaphor. Those who learn. Often they don't even call themselves witches or wear a badge. Often without scripts, special tools or complicated rituals. You are my kind of witches, even if you don't call yourself witches. Why haven't we met online before?

The urge to share myself with you is strong.

Just that you know, I use the word 'witch' as a compliment, and witch certainly is my favorite archetype.

If you see yourself in anything I described, please, let me find you! We share a path. I would love to know you.

@Herbivore Oh my gosh, I’m stunned to learn how this industry operates. Now I think back to the one handknitted Norwegian sweater my grand folks brought me age 12 from their travels there. I loved that sweater so much, with angora yarn knit into the yoke design. Never had something angora again but now what I know about this, I definitely will avoid it.

Hello, makers and crafters and engineers and anyone else who can help.

How to preserve this?

I have... let's say "liberated"... a sign that was on the side of the road in my small town for a few years, and was eventually pulled down or fell down.

Right when the pandemic started (IIRC) this rusted sign got sprayed with the word "HOPE". Nothing else, just that word. It was visible in a little greenspace between the two tiny towns here. It was on a 10-foot (ish) post next to decommissioned train tracks parallel to the road. I tried to photograph it several times but never really captured it. This sign is meaningful to me.

It fell down or was taken down (suspiciously, right when the state police built a station across the road, though it maybe just fell down). That was almost two years ago.

Tonight I brought it home. It is now my baby. I want to preserve and enhance the "HOPE" graffiti, which has faded in the months sitting in the grass.

the sign is an old slab of steel (maybe 3/16" (~4-5mm) thick? IDK, it weighs at least 40 lbs/~18kg). Very rusted, but also solid.

How to preserve this message? I'd prefer to simply highlight what is there, not repaint anything. Any ideas?

Hey y'all, in a break from the doom and gloom that is this freaking timeline, as lots of folks are cancelling #prime and looking for gifts for holiday season, may I direct you towards the Artisans Cooperative? Founded as a response to Etsy becoming a dropship paradise, AC (quote) "is crafting a better online handmade marketplace, run as a values-aligned, member-owned cooperative." (I am not affiliated.)

There's some really groovy stuff!

I love to wear a #moon necklace around my neck. Once I find one I love, I tend to wear it daily for years at a time. I'm thinking it's time to change my current one.

So Masto pals, links to independent #jewelry makers #artists #crafters who might dabble in moon motifs would be greatly appreciated.

Or if you're a jewelry maker yourself, drop your shop link in the comments! I like to support independent folk or small businesses. Bonus points if the jewelry is nickel free.
