It seems to me the real issue here is the growing need for #courts to be able to direct CRAs to put these things right properly.
There would have to be broad new powers, sufficient powers for judges to make ammendments to people's #credit records directly.
Of course this won't happen because there are too many other priorities right now.
But there was a time, when things were running smoothly when it could have been done and it should have been done.
Imagine the NERVE of a corporation to send YOU an email about "keeping secure", all while their databases have been breached in the past. HA!!!!

There Are Two Kinds of Credit Cards

Absolutely. And it needs to be available world-wide, not just inside the E.U. or Europe. Every country trying to avoid control by the USA will need into it.
And not just arm's-length -- it should be a nonprofit or whatever the E.U. equivalent of a public benefit corporation is.
EuroCard? EuroCredit? LibreCard... I like the sound of that one.
“Nobody is helped by shutting down the agency, except #BigBanks, #ConMen & rip-off artists, oh & #billionaires like Mr. Musk, who is trying to start a new ‘#XMoney’ feature on his social media platform,” Sen #ElizabethWarren said at the hearing. “By eliminating the #CFPB, he would take the financial cop off the beat.”
But on Thurs, the #Trump #CFPB dropped several complaints against financial institutions, including the ones for #CapitalOne & #RocketHomes.
“We welcome the CFPB’s decision to dismiss this action, which we strongly disputed,” a spokesperson for Capital One said in an emailed statement.
In a statement, Rocket Homes said: “This case was a misrepresentation of the facts, as we have said from the day the suit was filed.”
A month earlier, the #CFPB filed a lawsuit against #RocketHomes Real Estate, alleging that the company incentivized real estate brokers & agents to steer home buyers to #RocketMortgage.
“At a time when #homeownership feels out of reach for so many, companies should not illegally block competition in ways that drive up the cost of #housing,” said then-CFPB Dir Rohit Chopra in announcing the action.

In one of its final actions under the #Biden admin, for example, the #CFPB filed a lawsuit on Jan 14 against #CapitalOne, alleging the financial institution misrepresented its “360 Savings” accounts, effectively “cheating consumers out of more than $2B in interest payments.”

When harmed, the average #consumer often doesn’t have the #money to defend themself. Hiring an attorney is expensive. Rooting out deceptive predatory practices should be left to the #government, not a family trying to make ends meet.
Remember the Great #Recession?
During his first term, #Trump was hell-bent on eviscerating the authority of an agency that #Congress authorized to protect #consumers after the 2008 financial crisis. His choice to lead the agency in 2017 signaled his disdain: Mick Mulvaney, a fmr congressman who voted to abolish the #CFPB.
…But consumers needed then — & need now — a powerful advocate.
#Trump & #ElonMusk are working to decimate the Consumer Financial #Protection Bureau [#CFPB].
In early Feb, Musk posted “CFPB RIP,” …with a gravestone emoji.
Musk’s death march has begun. The number of #consumer complaints being processed by the bureau is significantly down, & several lawsuits against #financial companies were recently dropped.

The Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA) is enforced by the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) and Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) which are thisclose to being abolished by the administration.

as our personal and private information gets opened up to who knows how many eyes, i just figured i'd mention.
i froze my credit a few years ago.
it means that if any application for a credit card or loan is made, i will bascially find out about it. i have a fraud alert on there too but that's prolly not necessary for most ppl.
yes, i can still use my credit cards and pay my bills normally.
but it feels like a nice, extra layer of protection.
just sayin
And, while we're talking credit reports, if you haven't checked yours in a while, time to do that, too!
Federal law (for USAians again) mandates you can get one copy of each of your reports for free in a one-year time span. You can get all three reports at once, or check one of them every four months.
There are many mock services that offer to get you your reports. There are plenty of services (even the bureaus themselves) that provide paid services to get you more copies over a year.
But the place to go for the annual free ones is:
