@Natteheks That reminds me of one of my all-time favourite childrens' books when I was young, "Nature's Smallest Gravedigger". I still have it, so here are some photos from it.

It is all about the life of the American burying beetle, *Nicrophorus americanus*, and, remarkably, it was one in a whole series by Golden Books called Nature's Sanitation Corps.

The book was written by Victoria Cox and Stan Applebaum with illustrations by Dorothea Barlowe and it was published way back in 1974. My Nana gave it to me in 1977 (yes, I'm old).

I still think it's a marvellous book. I like how all the illustrations are accurate depictions of the animals exactly as they are, not simplified down and sanitized for children.

#decomposition : the decay or dissolution consequent on the removal or alteration of some of the ingredients of a compound

- French: décomposition

- Italian: decomposizione

My photo from 2019 shows a #treetrunk in the #Berlin #winter, which has not fallen off all its dried #autumnleaves. In autumn, many #deciduous #trees cork the xylem connections of their leaves so that they do not evaporate more water than the tree can absorb through its roots. The #withered #fallenleaves serve as a #microhabitat for specialized #decomposing #soilorganisms. If old leaves remain on the tree, the organisms there will begin #decomposition processes.

A comprehensive analysis shows that the permafrost area of Northern Hemisphere may have shifted from a sink to a source of #greenhouse gases, bringing a longtime prediction to fruition.

Historically, the #permafrost region has been a sink for carbon, as frozen soils inhibit microbial #decomposition.

But rising temperatures contribute to thawing permafrost and enhance the biogeochemical activities that exacerbate #climate change by releasing greenhouse gases.

#decompwlj ➡️ It's a decomposition of positive integers. The weight is the smallest such that in the Euclidean division of a number by its weight, the remainder is the jump (first difference, gap). The quotient will be the level. So to decompose a(n), we need a(n+1) with a(n+1)>a(n) (strictly increasing sequence), the decomposition is possible if a(n+1)<3/2×a(n) and we have the unique decomposition a(n) = weight × level + jump.

We see the fundamental theorem of arithmetic and the sieve of Eratosthenes in the decomposition into weight × level + jump of natural numbers. For natural numbers, the weight is the smallest prime factor of (n-1) and the level is the largest proper divisor of (n-1). Natural numbers classified by level are the (primes + 1) and natural numbers classified by weight are the (composites +1).

For prime numbers, this decomposition led to a new classification of primes. Primes classified by weight follow Legendre conjecture and i conjecture that primes classified by level rarefy. I think this conjecture is very important for the distribution of primes.

It's easy to see and prove that lesser of twin primes (>3) have a weight of 3. So the twin primes conjecture can be rewritten: there are infinitely many primes that have a weight of 3.

I am not mathematician so i decompose sequences to promote my vision of numbers. By doing these decompositions, i apply a kind of sieve on each sequences.

His time in the #Senate had left Romney worried—not just about the #decomposition of his own political party, but about the fate of the #American project itself.

…“A man gets some people around him and begins to #oppress & #dominate others,” he said…. “It’s a testosterone-related phenomenon, perhaps. I don’t know. But in the history of the world, that’s what happens.” America’s experiment in self-rule “is fighting against human nature.”

New research: #fires in #Australia (2019-2020) killed at least 60 billion #leaf #litter #arthropods, and perhaps up to 120 trillion (!!!) if #mites and #springtails are included.

Destruction of this community has effects on #decomposition, which affects stand #recovery.

It’s easy to forget all these tiny #deaths, but we should expect more of them as #ClimateChange and fire interact to accelerate #biodiversity loss.
