Rolling Stone: Naomi Klein: ‘What They Want Is Absolutely Everything’

"...Klein recently co-authored an essay for The Guardian, sounding alarm about the dark worldview of politically insurgent tech billionaires like Elon Musk and Peter Thiel. Klein views these men — who are guiding Donald Trump’s presidency — as abandoning any positive vision for our collective future, and instead retrenching in preparation for a dark, nearly end times-level social collapse, from which they and other elites emerge unscathed, and all powerful. “The governing ideology of the far-right in our age of escalating disasters,” she writes, “has become a monstrous, supremacist survivalism.” ..."

"Modeling Reemergence of Vaccine-Eliminated Infectious Diseases Under Declining Vaccination in the US"

jamanetwork.com/journals/jama/

"At current state-level vaccination rates, measles may become endemic again; increasing vaccine coverage would prevent this. Under a 50% decline in childhood vaccination in the US, the simulation model predicted 51.2 million #measles cases over a 25-year period, 9.9 million #rubella cases, 4.3 million #poliomyelitis cases, 197 #diphtheria cases, 10.3 million hospitalizations, and 159,200 deaths."

Note that the graphic is labeled "25% decline in childhood vaccination" not 50%. I think this is because the authors wanted an "average" of their models for the graphic. Bottom line: It's bad at 25% and can only get worse! Also note that the #measles numbers are much larger because it is so much more contagious!

People... this would be an *appalling* outcome of the current anti-vax, anti-science, anti-child confusion and policies of the current #Trump administration!

Preparing for the next #disaster . . .

I built a battery backup system for my gas CH system electrics that keeps me warm in a brown outs. Most boilers have this as a factory option.

WHY?

Where I live in the UK we have onshore solar, offshore wind farms, the Nemo link 400 KV link to Zeebrugge and everso' green (honest) Canadian tree burner power plant at Sandwich. Dungeness nuke ceased in 2018 so we need this all to play nicely!

NOBODY KNOWS HOW THIS ALL WORKS except Fred and he is on holiday in Portugal

Destroyed Ontario ghost town was almost a historic catastrophe
Once a quaint French Ontarian farming village nestled along the South Nation River, Lemieux, Ontario, is now nothing more than a distant memory.Formerly located just an hour's drive east of Ottawa, the town's origins can be traced back to the mid-1850s, when it began as a service centre for ...

Today in Labor History April 16, 1947: 581 workers died in Texas City, Texas, on Galveston Bay, in the deadliest industrial disaster in U.S. history. 2,300 tons of ammonium nitrate, on board a ship docked in the port of Texas City, detonated and set off a chain reaction of explosions and fires on other ships and nearby oil storage facilities. Thousands were seriously injured. As a result, changes in chemical manufacturing and new regulations for the bagging, handling, and shipping of chemicals were enacted.
