I've seen many manganese quarries and mines, but never one quite like this. Repeated piles of stones, apparently spoil heaps but they are quite odd. The narrow vein must have been chased on the surface.
The landscape is almost all sandstone and mudstone, about half a billion years old.

The National Trust refuses to stop misleading over drone laws.
Latest response from their office:
"As we state on our website https://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/who-we-are/about-us/flying-drones-at-our-places as landowner our rules fall outside the CAA’s so you can’t overfly without our permission."
I've asked the NT to clarify whether, in that statement, it intended, as it very much appears, to suggest the CAA doesn't regulate airspace over its land and/or that the NT doesn't recognise those regulations.
