It's a real shame the general public and the authorities think drones are the tools of the devil.

Here's their true value: the ability to survey 3.3km2 in the space of around eight short flights, with minimal need to traverse hilly terrain that would otherwise take days to conduct.

The ability to do all this whilst the sun shines, avoiding rapid changes in weather, is another huge benefit in my part of the world.

The National Trust refuses to stop misleading over drone laws.

Latest response from their office:

"As we state on our website nationaltrust.org.uk/who-we-ar as landowner our rules fall outside the CAA’s so you can’t overfly without our permission."

I've asked the NT to clarify whether, in that statement, it intended, as it very much appears, to suggest the CAA doesn't regulate airspace over its land and/or that the NT doesn't recognise those regulations.

National TrustFlying drones at our placesAll aerial activity above National Trust sites is prohibited unless specific permission is granted, according to an existing byelaw.

Here's some Monday entertainment for you: Natural Resources Wales', doubtless retro-written 'policy' about what we can and can't do with drones in the UK.

Someone was clearly asked to look the 'drone laws' up online, who then went on to grab whatever supported their view that drone pilots are all wrong 'uns.

Please, please tear it apart in comments!
