According to one of my economics comrades the governor's approach would cost the average working WA resident an extra $3861 per year!

Again, all this in an economy where the average American can not afford a $1k unexpected expense.

WA residents will pay nearly $4k more either directly in sales taxes OR indirectly as externalized costs in their everyday lives.

Ferguson is giving us a master class in regressive taxation.

Opinion: America the Unstable

1/4

> America under Donald Trump is an emerging market. That’s my takeaway from the last few days of tariff chaos and its fallout.

> [..] emerging markets are often characterised by uncertain #economics, corrupt politics, institutions that are too weak to enforce democratic norms, violence and social polarisation.

Excellent breakdown by Faisal Islam, BBC Economics editor.

“an astonishing U-turn”

“10% universal tariff is now riddled with exemptions”

“the "Art of the Repeal". The 4D chess has been replaced by someone playing one dimensional checkers, but unable to tell the difference between opposing pieces”

ICYMI:

There's been a lot of commentary this week on the longer term effects of Trump's economic 'policies'.

Although written before his partial pause on some of his imposed tariffs, I stand by my overall conclusions on what Trump's actions are likely to prompt:

A focus on regional trade agreements (and blocs) excluding the USA;

A shift away from the dollar as the global reserve currency; and

a shortening of global supply chains.

BREAKING: US Politicians were buying tariff exempt companies before the news like $AAPL Apple.

Take Republican Marjorie Taylor Greene. She bought $AAPL, $AMZN, $DELL, $NKE, and others before the surprise announcement today, buyjng the companies as they fell.
