"As I say in the book, Andreessen’s manifesto runs almost entirely on vibes, not logic. I think someone may have told him about the futurist manifesto at some point, and he just sort of liked the general vibe, which is why he paraphrases a part of it. Maybe he learned something about Marinetti and forgot it. Maybe he didn’t care.

I really believe that when you get as rich as some of these guys are, you can just do things that seem like thinking and no one is really going to correct you or tell you things you don’t want to hear. For many of these billionaires, the vibes of fascism, authoritarianism, and colonialism are attractive because they’re fundamentally about creating a fantasy of control."

#EffectiveAltruism folx should work on their reading comprehension.

I got an #AI in 2024 retrospective from 80,000 Hours, an Effective Ventures project (related to EA). In it, they mention that "the o1 language model [developed by OpenAI ][...] has the ability to deliberate about its answers before responding."

The OpenAI o1 release says: "We introduce deliberative alignment, a training paradigm that directly teaches reasoning LLMs [...] safety specifications..."

Quite the leap of faith...

In this week’s roundup, the couple who’ve made themselves the face of pronatalism keep their kids in a freezing home (they say by choice) and slap them to teach them right from wrong because they saw tigers paw their cubs in the wild.

Plus, Google’s AI fail, Kenyan workers write letter to Joe Biden, and more!

Good riddance to what was a colossal waste of money, energy, resources, and any sane person's time, intellect, and attention. To even call these as exploratory projects is a disservice to human endeavor.

"Future of humanity", it seems. These guys can't even predict their next bowel movement, but somehow prognosticate about the long term future of humanity, singularity blah blah. This is what "philosophy" has come to with silicon valley and its money power: demented behavior is incentivized, douchery is rationalized, while reason is jettisoned.

The Guardian · ‘Eugenics on steroids’: the toxic and contested legacy of Oxford’s Future of Humanity InstituteBy Andrew Anthony

Well worth a read: As our interconnectivity profilates and technological provess multiplies, so does belief in #magic.

It’s not just new-age hippies & faith-healers anymore, it’s silicon valley #postrationalism and #effectivealtruism going along with the #manifesting & #occult, up to even rooting for Julius Evola’s fascist magic & #traditionalism (a favourite of Russia’s Aleksandr Dugin)

Sure, if you know it’s just self-hypnosis. But record shows that slips away easy😓

#effectivealtruism is the believe that doing harm now, in the quest for improving things that will cause greater good later evens itself out. Its not new #Stalin believed that if he ran the workers into the ground in a few decades they have a fully automated utopia that Marx had talked about as the outcome of industrialization, and that included sending nearly 3% of the nation to the gulags. Its not #altruism, it doesn't save futre lives in the long term it just creates a cycle of trauma that ensures no one is mentally healthy and that's assuming the effective altruists actually does anything to save future lives.

And this is really the black, rotting heart of the #EffectiveAltruism movement: It is nothing more than excuse to plunder the present for a highly hypothetical distant future.

Look, I am not saying that humanity won't ever spread out among the stars, assuming that we survive the present crisis - though I bet it won't be during these bastards' lifetimes (since the needed tech is nowhere available). However, if the actual goal is "more Mozarts and more Einsteins", then they could do far more for this _right now_.

Both Mozart and Einstein grew up in relatively privileged families who made it possible for their scions to follow their passions. In contrast, the Capitalist system that both Bezos and Musk encourage grinds most of the people working in it - especially at the lower ends - into the dust, creating a vast overworked and underpaid underclass.

How is human ingenuity supposed to prosper under these situations? How can a new Mozart or Einstein arise if their parents struggle to make ends meet as a part of the vast supply chains Bezos and Musk are commanding?

If they don't take care of the people living right now, then why should we trust the ideology of these bastards to encourage the growth of the human spirit in the future?

They are NOT humanity's saviors - but merely an expression of the sickness of our times.
