Family Matters
2024 , 6 episodes

AsianWiki :
" A group of people, possessing special abilities, disguise themselves as a family to survive against heinous criminals. Han Young-Soo (Bae Doo-Na) is a loving mother with a special ability "

I watched the first episode. A good episode !
It starts normal, with funny music fit for the atmosphere that feels things will not stay normal...
No more than this here, more later behind CW . :CoolCry:

One of the several reasons that me & my immediate family are estranged from almost everyone, except for a few, from my patriarch extended family is because they'd become racist, bigoted, capitalistic jerkfaces.

The extended patriarch side of my family that we chose to be estranged from have hatred & hold shitass stereotypical views towards black, Indigenous & Latinos. They also are ignorant & cruel towards LGBTQ2S folks. That ain't OK with me, nor my immediate family. We don't share their asshat beliefs & before we cut off contact with them - I reamed them the fuck out.

I reminded them of their past war survivors history, their ancestral histories & how they're thinking & behaving like inhumane racist fuckers - when we arrived in Canada & how we all suffered racism assaults from white folks here for years. I told them that just because you're a yellow person who pretends to be white, you're still fucking yellow at end of day & you are abusing your own family & disrespecting all of our ancestors too. I told them that they raised selfish, greedy for money, ignorant kids - who don't give a fuck about anyone but themselves & those kids are going to fucking abandon them, when they get old, frail & need help to live. I told them - unlike your fucking self & your fucking selfish kids - I'd help them out, in their times of need - despite them not ever being there for me or my family, during our times of need. I told them - it's because my parents raised me well & my parents never sold their souls out for money, unlike them.

That is how I dealt with people in my own family who became inhumane towards others. No strangers get a free pass with me. You'd be a fucking fool to even try.

@dtgeek : interestingly I was talking about it not long ago with a friend who grew up in French overseas territories ("Outre-Mer), aka former colonies where a lot of PoCs live. Since they had different channels available, and these channels imported a lot more Black sitcoms, she grew up with a lot more Black sitcoms than me despite being about the same age. For her #FamilyMatters was easier to watch regularly than #TheNanny for instance.

@dtgeek : I tried thinking about it and other than sometimes watching #TheCosbyShow (ahem) and #TheFreshPrinceofBelAir if it aired when I was there, not really.
I say this as a French person, though. In the 90s the availability of sitcoms was strictly limited to what TV networks would import, so obviously it's a different issue. I know #FamilyMatters aired here, for instance, but in a noon timeslot on Sunday that made it less watched than, say, #TheNanny, which occupied the 8pm slot on weekdays.
