Standing near the shore of a frozen lake. The ground around us is coated with an inch or two of snow that has melted and refroze, capturing small animal tracks and other details in the ice. The sun is setting over the wooded far shoreline, casting deep shadows across our miniature tundra. Leafless trees in the forest surrounding the lake are silhouetted in the light. The sky is filled with streaks of hazy thin clouds, tinted gold and orange along the horizon. The sun is an enlarged blob of bright yellow behind the veil of haze, creating an elongated bright reflection on the ice.
