Mark Stosberg<p>The Framework 16 laptop detects when it's booted partially assembled. It boots into a special mode to walk you through completing the assembly. The screen updates to reflect your progress and prompt the next step. This requires no tools to complete. Impressive! It's been one week since I got the #framework 13 laptop (Ryzen 7). Went with Fedora Silverblue and it's been working flawlessly so far.

GOOD:

- Overall build and weight. I read reports that the lid was flimsy, but I don't see it. Maybe it's been improved.

- Keyboard could be best laptop keyboard I've experienced. Decent key travel with a nice thock to it.

- Thrilled to have a fingerprint reader again since moving away from Macbook.

NOT-SO-GOOD:

- Battery life is noticeably worse than Apple Silicon laptops, but I'd say it's on par with the HP Omen I use for work.

- Don't think it's a problem specifically with the Framework, but even if I disable the trackpad while typing, it still catches my hand every now and then. I decided to disable tap to click altogether.

Ok!
After a week with the Framework 16 I'm well pleased.
All of the hardware works fine with stock Fedora 42.
With 96GB of RAM, a 1TB SSD, and sweet AMD processors (both C and G), it handles my various hungry editors (Blender, FreeCAD, KdenLive, etc) without breaking a sweat.
Battery life is about what I expected for a large lappie.
The structure feels solid with a balance of metal and plastic for strength and weight.
I can't speak to longevity but first impressions are positive.

@cubicgarden

I'm going in the opposite direction, aiming for a #Framework laptop for my next.

Have a #Fairphone 4, since it was launched, and not until Fairphone 6 launched recently I've felt the urge to upgrade.

Probably will get the F6, and then the F4 is going to become a dev tool, to try out alternative OSs on a and more.

8 Jahre goldener #Apple Käfig. Einfach aus Komfort. Wird es Zeit auszubrechen. Hab das schon lang vor, diesmal aber endgültig. Was schwer wird:

- Frau will das iPhone behalten
- „Wo ist“ fehlt
- Gemeinsame Foto-App wird fehlen
- Zusammenspiel Apple Watch & Peloton
- MacBook gegen #Framework Laptop tauschen

War schön mit dir Apple. Aber es ist als ITler schon ein Trauerspiel, eingeschränkt in der App-Auswahl zu sein und auf Privacy zu scheißen. Ich freue mich auf @shiftphones ❤️
