Good morning.

Oh, gee whiz! I was jolted awake extra early this morning—before five, even. My hearing aids were making a racket, which disturbed my wife, who then woke me. Once I stumbled through the fog of grogginess and my brain half-engaged, I realized the power was out. The generator either failed to start or kicked on briefly and then shut itself off.
Despite that, I fumbled my way through the house, instinctively flipping light switches in every room I entered, as if sheer willpower might restore electricity. Eventually, I returned to the bedroom, grabbed my phone, and used its flashlight to head outside and deal with the generator. It tends to shut down if the oil pressure drops—finicky thing.
Anyway, it’s running now. My brain is still only operating at half capacity, but there is coffee. And naps. Oh yes, there will be naps.
