So... I decided to rebase the project codebase.
The results of my work you can see here https://gitlab.com/xolatgames/birdy-wants-crisps
So as you can see - the work on the project is in full swing
But while I "rebase" the source code of the project - it can't will be running!
So after testing out #GitLab last night, I was pointed to #ForgeJo by @kiwi46678. I was having some problems getting email setup in GitLab so thought I would give it ago.
Well - not 2 hours in, it is setup and working and I do prefer it. I like that I can have synced repositories so update one on #GitHub and mine will sync.
My self-hosted #GitLab Git server running!
Ratestunde!
Hint: `::1` ist's nicht.
(1/2) It's very good to report #bugs in #FOSS projects. Services like #github, #gitlab, #codeberg and so forth makes it easy to do so without creating a new account for each report.
My recommendations:
- be polite - people are spending their spare time to help you
- explain it thorough: exact steps to reproduce, difference between actual result and expected result, mention exact version numbers, surrounding environments with their versions, background stories (maybe in an extra section at the end), ...
Fun fact: many(!) of my #bugreports get aborted during that phase because while explaining it properly, I did find out where my mistake was. Maybe improve the documentation afterwards.
...
Thank you #GitLab, for responding positively to community feedback.
The work item “Support #ActivityPub for GitLab”, which after years of hard-earned progress was abruptly closed “as our current focus isn't in this area”, attracted great clamour from people who want a #federated GitLab.
That item has now been re-opened with a well considered comment.

A hopeful move away from the #WalledGarden and back on track to joining the #Fediverse.
Crisis averted, #GitLab reopened the epic on #ActivityPub / #ForgeFed implementation. :)
They made it clear, though, that they're not going to do it themselves in any foreseeable future, their "current focus isn't in this area", so it's up to the community to implement it. As I mentioned in the issue, I won't be able to come back to it until I'm done bootstraping the business I'm working on, so anyone who wants to see it done faster should feel free to jump in.

@j12t Despite its past friendliness to the open-source community, I’ve been hearing that #gitlab now has a stronger commercial focus.
While #activitypub doesn’t align with that revenue growth, AI integration does:
https://about.gitlab.com/direction/ai-powered/ai_framework/
At #fosdem 2025, I heard many communities appreciate #forgejo and #codeberg as embodying what the open-source world had hoped to get from #gitlab and #gitea.
As far as I know, #forgejo is committed to implementing federation, which is already a feature in development:

Ah, zut, #Gitlab laisse tomber l'idée d'intégrer #ActivityPub https://gitlab.com/gitlab-org/gitlab/-/issues/30672
#Gitlab just closed the issue about supporting #ActivityPub. Kai Armstrong says "our current focus isn't in this area".
This is very sad, I really think this could have been a pretty good match *espacially* for Gitlab. It could have been a puzzle piece in how to do federated open source coordination. You know, the problem with "not wanting to be on github, but kinda finding it convenient everyone has an account already".

#Gitlab just closed the issue about enabling federation using #ActiviyPub that has been open since 2019

With the drop in price of the premium tier, I'm trying to decide if Gitlab premium is worth it.
Is $900 less (for a year) as it stands which is pretty chunky.
Anyone upgraded/running premium? Any unexpected killer features?

Image diff is sweet.
With people submitting their private code and their companies' code to random #BigData servers so that Big Data's #LLM can suggest code or conduct code reviews, we can just give up on the idea that there is such a thing as #IntellectualProperty or #Copyright, right?
It is pretty absurd, IMHO, that #GitLab doesn't have anything similar to https://github.com/notifications. Why is e-mail the only way to find out if there's anything new happening in any of my issues? What if I want to go back to an issue where something happened recently, why isn't those just listed somewhere so it's easy to find?
When it takes weeks or months to get any feedback on issues opened in #Gnome GitLab I always fear that I just miss some e-mails, and issues then might stall.
