Discussion of USENET on IRC #oldcomputerchallenge got me to thinking about my state of mind circa millennium, say '95-05.
I was spending a LOT of time on USENET, on a couple accounts. ICB, IRC, AOL, ICQ all scroll & beep.
I'd hacked my Linux desktop into something really peculiar, was running mostly Enlightenment (previously IceWM, WindowMaker, briefly KDE but ha ha that shit could go in a dumpster). Everything was automated, floating windows around me.

I LOVE how the style is very strongly inspired by the original #manga by #MasamuneShirow - I love the 1995 movie, but what REALLY got me into the fandom was the manga, so I'm actually very excited about this!

Abgesehen davon, dass Mamoro Oshii mehr oder weniger einen 3. Ghost in the Shell #Film angeteasert hat, haben wir auch einen Teaser für die neue #Animeserie von Science Saru bekommen! (Die schon länger in Produktion war, die ich aber überhaupt nicht mehr auf dem Schirm hatte. )
Ich LIEBE, wie sich der Style sehr eng an dem Original-Manga von Masamune Shirow orientiert - ich liebe den 1995-Film, aber so wirklich, WIRKLICH ins Fandom eingestiegen bin ich mit dem Manga, also bin ich tatsächlich sehr gespannt darauf!

I don't think Ronan Harris was inspired or influenced by Innocence when he wrote Darkangel. It's just that the song uses the imagery of a fallen angel, and because that is largely what Milton's Paradise Lost is about, there is this link with the Ghost in the Shell movie.
The shape of the airplane's wings and the cathedral-like buildings on Etorofu reinforce the reference.
After all, Togusa is quoting from Paradise Lost to express his reaction to the scene they are confronted with. And the makers of the movie have him do this because they want us to realise this connection.
The horrible American dub is closer than the subtitles:

Whenever I listen to VNV Nation's Darkangel, I see before me that scene of Ghost In The Shell 2: Innocence where Batō and Togusa descend on Etorofu in a plane that seems to have the wings of a fallen angel.
And Togusa quotes from Paradise Lost:
"His legions-Angel Forms, who lay entranced. Thick as autumnal leaves that strow the brooks."
Batō rejoins:
"Now you're quoting Milton? But we're nae Satan."

Trzeciej postaci nie poznaję, więc albo jest nowa, albo wiek i zmiana stylu graficznego grają tu rolę.
I to na razie na tyle. Plansza tytułowa i trzy obrazki wystarczyły, żeby stary koń jednocześnie skakał z radości i płakał rzewnymi łzami
