"Maine #GovernorJanetMills criticized the Trump administration on Monday just days after it moved to cut all federal #education funding to the state. The move came in response to Maine’s refusal to enforce the administration’s directive to ban transgender athletes from competing in women’s sports.
In an interview on MSNBC’s 'Morning Joe' Monday, Mills said the state received a series of letters from federal agencies, culminating in an April 2 letter from Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins, which the Maine governor described as 'appalling' in tone and substance. Mills said the next day Rollins threatened to pull all education funding to the state.
" 'Because there are maybe two — at most — two transgender athletes competing in Maine schools right now, they decided to shut off funding for our school nutrition program, the school lunch program entirely, on which 172,000 Maine school #children rely for their school meals. That didn’t make any sense,' Mills said. "

Mar. 24—"Maine Gov. Janet Mills on Monday brushed off President Donald #Trump's weekend demand that she issue a 'full throated apology' for publicly challenging him during a White House event last month.
"The governor responded to Trump's social media post while at a public event in Bangor. But it was not an apology.
"Mills contested Trump's claims that he wants to protect women through his executive order barring #TransgenderAthletes from women's sports, pointing out that women in the United States and around the world will be hurt by his moves to eliminate #ForeignAid, attack #SocialSecurity and #Medicaid, and impose #tariffs that will spark #TradeWars and drive up consumer prices.
"'If the current occupant of the White House wants to protect women and girls, he should start by protecting the women and teenage girls who are suffering #miscarriages and dying because they can't get basic, life-saving health care in states across this country,' Mills said, according to the Bangor Daily News. 'If he truly cares about women and girls and people of this country, let's see the economic plan. Let's see the health care plan. Let's see the education plan.'
"Mills, who was in Bangor celebrating the purchase of a mobile home park by its residents under a new state law, added that 'if he cares about women and girls, he should talk about the little girls and boys and infants in #Sudan and other countries who are dying right now because he has cut off their supply of food and life-saving medicines.'"

So long as she is willing to kowtow to him, the “case” can be “settled.” Exactly what she is supposed to be apologizing to him for is unclear, T's political stances have dlso belied his claim to protect women. He has worked to deny women & girls access to health care, including the right not to die needlessly from a miscarriage. He has undermined women'’s right to control their own bodies & defunded or stopped the programs that protect their right to be safe from domestic violence & sexual assault.Mills stands in dramatic contrast to Trump. Her career has focused on helping women & girls to overcome domestic violence, the threat of sexual assault, and inequities in the workplace. As a district attorney—the first woman elected as a DA in New England—she grew frustrated with the ways in which the criminal justice system failed victims of domestic violence.
