Thanks to #LLMs, the public now views "text" as an acceptable means to interact with the computer. We #IT practitioners must seize this rare opportunity and revert back to the #TUI, when implementing internal enterprise applications used only by a few in-house business experts.

Imagine how much time, money, effort, and aggravation we would save by ditching those bloated #GUI frameworks.

I think it's important to highlight such projects like cuiiliste.de and actually point people at it in the hopes that @ooni and @citizenlab add it to their test lists...

  • Personally I did add it to my blocklist lists not as an endorsement [far from it!] but as a point of reference for #CUII...

Maybe someday I (or someone else) can get around and make a #VirusTotal - style #URL / #Domain checker that provides more than a mere "is clean" / "is sus" / "is dangerous" assessment but a more nuanced answers like:

  • "This domain is blocked by CUII for alleged copyright infringement"

or

and allow for granular, informed decisions (i.e. allow accessing it as a client, but blocking the entire #ASN from accessing one's Servers and thus block non-consensual #Scrapers that violate #RobotsTXT.)

It would be nice if #FileManager s had a command to “delete this folder permanently, bypassing the recycle bin, if and only if it is empty.”

The reason being that deleting an empty folder is usually harmless, whereas if the folder may or may not be empty then deleting it may or may not be harmless.

In the status quo, it is ironically safer to delete an empty folder using the command line than to use a #GUI because the rmdir command will fail if the folder is not empty!

This is one of those fun cases where one blost begets another one in pretty rapid succession.
Nothing deep, just a fun little jaunt through computing memory lane.
I have Dave's toot to thank for the genesis of this post.

I have to say, I am really, really happy with how the flow into the thirty second GIF reflects my ideal computer useage.

Basically, I write a clim command that steers my leonardo system "like a person does" via emacs-server, visible in the background of the straightforward clim interactor GUI I generated in a couple lines.

Really just a devlog! I slapped a #mcclim #gui onto my simulation so that I could click a button rather than type actions over and over again.

Then, I really just figured out that one simple-starting-arrangement idea I had doesn't work, because the only vertical move that gets triggered is from the lowest row of a tile to the highest row of the same tile.

Small "improvements".
