Located in the Hvítá river canyon in southwest Iceland, Gullfoss is part of the Golden Circle, a popular tourist route that also includes Þingvellir National Park and the geothermal area in Haukadalur, home to the famous geysers Geysir and Strokkur.<br> The waterfall consists of two distinct tiers, with a total drop of about 32 meters. The water cascades down in a dramatic manner, creating a powerful and mesmerizing sight. On sunny days, the mist generated by the falls often results in beautiful rainbows, adding to the enchantment of the scenery. Mark H<p>Another <a href="https://mstdn.social/tags/WaterfallWednesday" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>WaterfallWednesday</span></a> is upon us, and it's been a while since I posted a photo of Iceland's famous Gullfoss so here's one for the occasion. Taken just over eight years ago on our first visit to the country and on the almost compulsory Golden Circle Tour. #Iceland dump #2

One day we did the #GoldenCircle tour, taking in #Thingvellir National Park, #Gullfoss falls, some geysers and #Friðheimar tomato farm. Thingvellir is where the North American and European tectonic plates are moving further away. Gullfoss falls are amazing and from there we saw a strange cloud formation over a distant mountain, that even the guide hadn't seen before. After a visit to watch the #Stokkur geyser blow a few times (wow!), we headed for as much tomato soup and bread as you could handle at Friðheimar tomato farm. They even brought over #vegan butter and sour cream for me. Fantastic! They have their own bees there, too, imported from the #Netherlands.
