@FediTips

How can I find out what best practice / group conscience is about hashtags in threads?

When I do a thread, I hashtag each post. Another person says I should hashtag the first post but not the rest.

I'd like to search for whether this topic has come up and what people said.

Do I do a poll? A toot? Search a hashtag? Something else?

TIA

If anyone else knows an answer, I'm happy to hear it. Boosts too.

I downloaded the NVDA screen reader to see what the experience is like.

It got me to start adding some missing Alt tags to my website for stuff I didn't think of (like titles, icons, etc).

Also, apparently screen readers don't like it when people #hashtag words mid-sentence in Mastodon like this. NVDA, at least, splits the sentence into pre-hashtag, hashtag, and post-hashtag. You have to hover over it in three places to hear the whole sentence.

#TIL If you ever wanted to have a hashtag directly followed by other letters like in #HashTags are great (notice that the s is not part of the hashtag), you can add a zero width space (#Unicode U+200B).

While on macOS and iOS this is doable but not very easy, in Linux I just hold ctrl+shift while entering u200b and then releasing ctrl-shift.

Another advantage of giving my old #iMac an new #Linux life.

edited to fix a typo

I need help. I’ve been away from Mastodon a few days, and when I came back, my home feed is longer showing posts from followed hashtags. Only posts from my followed users appear now.

I can’t find anything in the settings to fix this. Whatever it is, I need an answer, as my feed feels desolate without new posts to discover.

Then again, who knows if anyone will hear this plea if non-followed users can’t see this post.
