During the thaw period in spring, it is not recommended to go on hiking trails in the woods. Not only are the conditions incredibly muddy, so if several hikers use a trail it can get very easily damaged, but also this could harm vegetation and small ecosystems that are barely waking up from the winter.

But as we still need to get outside, there are other options. These are from a small trip to a couple of birdwatching sites nearby Yamachiche and the lovely Parc Écomaritime de l'Anse du Port (south from Trois Rivières).

We did see a great variety of birds, but they didn't give their consent for image. Maybe next time.

Some more parts from that stove. I'm tempted to go back, unearth them, and see how much of it is actually there. It looks pretty ornate for a backwoods shack.

Some bonus shots from the hike. Second one looks to be part of an old wood stove? It’s kind of odd how many old stoves I've found in the woods over the years.

Old very large stump mostly submerged in nearby lake, you can see the patterns of its roots and growths. There’s a couple little trees trying to establish themselves on the part that’s out of the water.
Intricate door pattern on what I can only guess is an old cast iron stove. There were a few other parts nearby, all of them 80-90% buried in the ground from years of leaves and erosion.
Two small blue signs with white arrows, top one pointing left, bottom one pointing right, and they are about 15 feet off the ground on a medium sized tree. There is no indication what they might be pointing at, being a little off the main trail and not exactly pointing at it.
New England where you can get lost miles and miles away from the nearest road and still run across a large carefully crafted stone wall. Back when this area was all clear cut and they were trying trying to raise sheep on rocks.

Went for bushwhacking hike this morning to check out the vernal pools and see if there were any mushrooms. Plenty of pools, no frogs or lizards yet, and a slim selection of mushrooms. Lots of moss!

Vernal pool deep in the woods. There’s big boulders, logs, and branches in it and everything is covered in a thick layer of moss. Trees reflect in the water and where there’s less glare you can see the thick leaf accumulation underwater

A large tree that fell across a trail years ago and the ends were cut to clear it off path. Tree consists of two main trunks thickly covered in mosses and lichen, the closer and bigger trunk has some form of shelf mushroom growing on the cut end.
