Fantastic Films 10 September 1979 (September 1979)

This is fascinating. Whoever drew this had some kind of vague idea what the alien spaceship from "Alien" looked like, but maybe not an official one. Maybe they'd seen some clips or stills and reconstructed it from memory?

Just finished watching 'THE BLACKENING' on the #Roku channel and it was FUN!! I think the horror/comedy genre is hard to get right, so I won't really fault it for being a better comedy than it was a horror movie. 🍻

If you don't know what movie I'm talking about, here's the trailer...

MONSTER PARTY #Review

An interesting premise squandered by shoddy execution. Mindless violence can only get you so far if that's the only thing you've got going on.

@horror you all would get a kick out of Luther's Mid-Fright Snack. it's a small scale public access style horror show (similar to something like mystery science theater) on YouTube. the skits in between the movies they show are so charmingly silly. i love small scale indie shows like this, and you can really tell the crew that makes it cares a lot about b-movie horror!

🧛‍♂️ check it out if you want to see them watch Panic (1982):

4/5. What’s the most important thing about world-building for you?

It’s the US West in the 1840’s. World-building options are limited. It’s horror, so world-building is necessary. But only near the fringes of our conscious awareness.

What inspires me most are distinctive locations. Place is a character, putting some additional meaning on the action.

The Long Weekend / La Fine Settimana Lunga #spookysaturday episode 3

You don't remember entering the raffle but the kind old woman, Gwendolyn, on the phone assured you you had. How else would she have your details? You had been hesitant at first but she explained everything to you - the history of the island and its castle - all off-grid except for one ancient landline in the kitchen. How it was used by her family as private hunting grounds, the transportation there by ferry and bringing supplies for the weekend, - by the end it was like talking to an old friend and you just couldn't say no.
The crossing there was interesting. Was it seasickness or was the uneasy feeling coming from the ferryman? He wouldn't look you in the eye and spent all his time muttering under his breath, ignoring you. Was he praying? "Bring another one"? Huh?
At least the castle was comfortable. Exploring the island, finally having some peace and quiet after all these hard months was much needed.
Sunday evening, the landline rings.
"I'm sorry dear but the ferry isn't coming for a while"
You inquire if that means a few hours or tomorrow.
"... I'm sorry dear but the ferry isn't coming."
You are confused.
"We still use it as hunting grounds, you know."
The line goes dead.
