"Vicki Johnson, the Clinic’s chief community officer, told City Council that with $70 million in unpaid copays in 2024 and a slim 1.7% operating margin, the Clinic must collect more revenue to maintain services and invest in community programs.

'We are a business,' Johnson told City Council on May 19. 'Our margins are small and we’re trying to do the best we can to be lean.'"

"We’ve seen multiple reports from doctors documenting Israeli forces actually entering hospitals they’ve attacked and destroying all the individual pieces of medical equipment in those facilities, one by one"
Amazing article by Caitlin Johnstone.

If I may add, the pattern is the IOF targeting hospitals before they obliterate the area they're in, so that the wounded will not be treated. It's extermination at its best.

No functioning hospital remains in Gaza’s north

After a siege on northern Gaza’s al-Awda Hospital for two weeks, Israeli troops have forced its staff and patients to evacuate it, says its director, Dr Mohammed Salha.

It was the last functioning hospital in the north.

“There is no one providing any medical services now,” Salha said.

al-Awda Hospital in northern Gaza is now out of service after an Israeli order was issued to evacuate the building.

There are still 97 people, including 13 patients inside the building, and the UN is planning a mission tomorrow to transfer patients to another facility.

With al-Awda’s closure, there is no remaining functional hospital in North Gaza – severing a critical lifeline for the people there.

"Like many rural communities, it’s also a place where people have come to value government health insurance. The number of Gila County residents on Medicaid and the related Children’s Health Insurance Program has nearly doubled over the past 15 years...Today, almost 4 in 10 residents are on one of the plans for low- and moderate-income people or those with disabilities."

Israel surrounds Indonesian and al-Awda hospitals in northern Gaza

Satellite images reviewed by Al Jazeera show Israeli army vehicles surrounding the Indonesian Hospital in the northern Gaza Strip.

The vehicles are stationed 60 to 100 metres from the hospital building, where a number of medical staff, patients and companions are still sheltering.

The Israeli army has also surrounded al-Awda Hospital in Tel al-Zaatar, close to the Indonesian Hospital.

"What [photographer] Peter Dench said about my photos at the time was that they had this feeling of claustrophobia about them… that really resonated about what Covid was like. There was this incredible feeling of claustrophobia, not just because of the PPE that we were wearing, which was a lot more severe than we were used to. Because you were kind of stuck in the hospital a lot of time, you couldn't go home."
