After the early-morning alerts from the Ring in the backyard, I went out to inspect what the doe had done. On the left side of the yard she'd been nibbling at things like my 3 bunches of sedum, but much was still there.

Then I started to see the hosta. Some were eaten, some remained. I walked over to the back of the right side of the yard, and she was still there, just eating away! Clearly someone has been feeding her. I had to get quite forceful to get her to leave.

We've been here 8 years, and this is the first time this has happened.

Hosta Buds and Blooms by Debra Martz
They spring forth so brilliantly green in April and bud in May but it is all downhill after the heat of the Oklahoma summer knocks on the door! They never make it to be large plants filled with many stems of flowers. But I enjoy watching them grow under the canopy of my Cypress, cut them to the ground when they wilt in late June, and wait for their return next Spring.
