How my buddy and his attorney look at me after eating a piece of blotter the size of a postage stamp and snatching a bat out of the air while going 85 MPH through the desert. 🫠🫠🫠I cannot explain more, I have bats to deal with.

P.S. ... No matter what the attorney says, do not take two hits out of the brown bottle in his shaving kit.

> IN ANY CASE, we live in different times, by different standards, and we have different hopes for our children. They will learn to be afraid of Everything, which is pitiful. Life in the Fourth Reich will not be easy, for most of them. They will ride fast motorcycles and have a lot of sex, and that will be just about it.

Today In Labor History April 8, 1935: Oscar Zeta Acosta was born on this day. Acosta was a Chicano lawyer, writer and activist in the Chicano movement of the 1960s and 1970s. He wrote Autobiography of a Brown Buffalo (1972) and Revolt of the Cockroach People (1973). He was good friends with Hunter S. Thompson, who called him “My Samoan Attorney,” in Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas. Acosta disappeared in Mexico in 1974. He is assumed dead.

A cooperation between #hairofthedogbrewing and #blackravenbrewing, Hunter is a barrel-aged barleywine (ale), aged in rye barrels from #woodycreekdistilers. The result is sensory-filled journey to be sure. Brimming with notes of smoke, burnt sugar, cola, and dark fruit, this is a sipper that no doubt would pair well with a mellow cigar or maybe a copy of “Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas”
More on Hunter from #blackravenbrewing & #hairofthedogbrewing
Sniffing, we recover notes of burnt sugar, almost crème brûlée-like, a bit of black licorice, some rustic earthiness, and a kind of smoked bacon-like aroma.
Sipping, we pick up some cola, mellow peat smokiness, dark fruit, burnt sugar, and a slightly sharp finish. Overall, Hunter has a strong mouthfeel, a definite alcoholic warmth, and with a lingering warmth with some slickness.

Today in Labor History January 31, 1971: For the second time in six months, rioting broke out during an anti-war protest in East Los Angeles. Police fired into the crowd, killing one protester. The anti-war demonstrations were organized by the Chicano Moratorium. Chicanos were dying at a higher rate during the Vietnam War than white Americans. During the August 29, 1970 protests, police killed three people, including Journalist and Civil Rights activist Ruben Salazar. Oscar Zeta Acosta portrayed Salazar in his 1973 novel, “The Revolt of the Cockroach People.” Hunter S. Thompson portrayed Acosta as his “Samoan attorney” in “Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas.” Salazar was the first Mexican journalist for a mainstream newspaper (L.A. Times) to write about the Chicano community. He also worked as the Times’ bureau chief in Mexico City and covered both the Tlatelolco Massacre and the U.S. occupation of the Dominican Republic, both in 1965. Because of his outspoken support for the Chicano movement, and his criticism of racism and police abuse against the Chicano community, he was a target of FBI surveillance. Many believe his death was an assassination.

A bunch of Neil Young, some Hendrix, a little CCR… what else could you possibly need?

By the way, I’ve always said that this movie is superior to Fear and Loathing in every way.
Bill’s Hunter was far better than Depp’s, & the latter film always seemed more cartoonish & buffoonish. It had a few moments, but in no world is it better than WTBR.

#RalphSteadman, famous for his scabrous work with #HunterSThompson, is having a retrospective at 88

He was motivated to depict politicians because “so many of them were just full of bullshit.”

His portraits included Richard #Nixon as half-pig, half-man with faeces flying out of his rear; a Dracula-like Ronald #Reagan dancing with a fearful Statue of Liberty; and racist politician Enoch Powell as a fly sitting on a pile of excrement.

In the past Steadman described his pen as a weapon, an object which would torment the subjects of his scribbles. Now, he says, “it’s more of a gentle fun machine.”

I started out on the fediverse arooooound...I wanna say 2017/18 mebbe? My big start in social media was MySpace. Before that, I had a LiveJournal (which I miss mightily with all my heart). My very first computer was a Gateway PC, back when they shipped them to you in those awesome cow spot pattern boxes. I am trying to de-google my life.

Religiously/spiritually speaking, I'm complicated. That will be a long post, when I get around to writing it. My general rule is: I have my thing. It's not everybody's thing, and that's cool. Not everybody's thing is my thing, and that's cool. Just don't be a wanker towards those whose thing ain't your thing. OM
