Ok I knew when picking this up in the charity shop that it would be a difficult puzzle.

What I didn't anticipate was that half the damn thing would be missing, the colours would be totally different to the box art, and there would be these weird thick white outlines on everything that are also not in the box art.

It's supposed to glow in the dark, which is the only reason I persevered for FOUR HOURS.

I bet it doesn't even.

A jigsaw puzzle featuring the famous Neuschwanstein Castle, with evening sky and distant mountains in the background and some very dark trees in front of it. Except there's only one edge piece, and also there's a big chunk of puzzle innards missing from the left middle and a few bits from the bottom left corner too. Two quid well spent.

I've played lots of chess competitions, one Diplomacy tournament, filled in for a bridge comp, helped organise a Scrabble event and know a Settlers of Catan champion.

I've never ventured into the competitive side of jigsaws before....

What started as a joke has somehow turned into me competing in the pairs division of the UK Jigsaw Puzzle National Championship tomorrow!

Surprisingly unbothered by nerves, although I do hope we can avoid coming dead last. Anything else will be considered a great success.

I made a video all about training so far, so if you like endless timelapses of people being bad at puzzles you can see that at @michellemay (or on my YT).

But the actual event itself will be livestreamed at youtube.com/@UKJPA/streams from 11:45am UK time, so maybe you'll be able to spot me in the background somewhere.

I'm hoping in the wide fediverse someone can help.

Back in the 1970s my family had an illusion jigsaw puzzle that looked like abstract flowy colour blobs, when you finished, you rolled a piece of reflective material into a tube and placed it into the center and you could see the image! A large group of people in a historical setting.

Does that sound familiar to anyone?

This was a nice and surprisingly easy jigsaw puzzle. The box is like a drawer which pulls out at the front, rather than the usual ‘lift the lid’ type. And the jigsaw comes in a nice fabric bag too.
It’s from the work by artist Imo Crossland in Manchester.

And this is so frustrating! Brand new, as virtually all my jigsaws are. I’ll tell you if it’s a swop. Maybe this is a feature of #Banksy ? I’m debating whether to just bin it. Certainly won’t give it to a charity shop. I’ve checked the floor, the table legs, the chair legs, the skirting boards etc in case the piece got lodged anywhere, or fell off the table. Nothing. There are no pets, no kids and no smokers here, so I’m thinking that piece never existed in the first place. Still, if you want it, I’ll post it - otherwise it’s going in the bin. It was pretty challenging once the maid and the graffiti were done. Everything else was either pavement or white wall. #JigsawPuzzle #Banksy

Finally finished my Christmas jigsaw! Only 1000 pieces, but it still took me over six hours to put together. Busy puzzles are not my forte.

Joke's on everyone else though, there are no other times for this one entered on myspeedpuzzling.com so I'm automatically world champ! 🏆

As you can see the light in here isn't ideal with all that glare, so winter puzzles are harder than summer ones. Added a pic of the box so you can actually tell what you're looking at 😅
