The only jury I've ever been on faced a question about resisting arrest. The defendant was tackled by an officer and initially fought back (or so the officer claimed). The officer was wearing a police uniform, but we acquitted on the charge, because the defendant was tackled from behind and there was reasonable doubt as to whether the officer actually identified themselves verbally in a way that made it clear to the defendant they weren't being tackled by some random dude.

This ain't legal advice, but in situations where a kidnapper refuses to identify themselves, show a warrant, or even a badge number, I suspect a sufficiently white bystander might not be convicted on interference charges if they did something like a citizen's arrest of a suspicious out-of-town paramilitary type who was in the process of an extrajudicial kidnapping. If there are multiple kidnappers, to be effective you might need multiple people willing to face jail time for such interventions to be successful...

Just thinking about this in light of the recent kidnapping in the next town over where some fools called the city police thinking they might actually protect the community from an unlawful assault. Can't blame the fools too much because of how deep positive portrayals of cops are embedded in our media diet though...

🚨Your US govt has kidnapped this child. Not family separation. #Kidnapping. It took a 2-yr-old child from her parents, deported the mom to VE, & have imprisoned the dad in a Salvadoran torture prison w/o charge or trial. Every day, new #evil level reached

THEY'RE INVENTING CONVICTIONS. The WH says the father was convicted of prost offenses but it's imposs *never even inside the US. Criminal checks reveal no such crimes in both the US & VE."

Hey, someone finally worked up the courage to ask Downmarket Mussolini a real question. In a contentious ABC interview Trump openly admitted what we all know but much of our media and political establishment is pretending was in question; the Klepto Kaiser *can* get Kilmar Abrego Garcia back from a torture prison in El Salvador with a mere phone call, he just doesn't want to and he's hiding behind his lawyers to get away with trafficking an innocent man to a foreign concentration camp.

Trump’s Tirade at Reporter Wrecks His Own Case Against Abrego Garcia

"In the interview, ABC News’s Terry Moran pointed out that Trump has the power to pick up the phone, call El Salvador’s president Nayib Bukele, and with the “power of the presidency” get Bukele to release him.

“I could,” Trump replied. “If he were the gentleman that you say he is, I would do that.”

At the most basic level, this destroys one of the Trump administration’s central arguments for leaving Abrego Garcia to rot in an El Salvadoran gulag. Administration officials say they have no power to compel Bukele to release him, because it would intrude on Salvadoran sovereignty to dictate that country’s treatment of one of its own.

But Trump just admitted that if he called Bukele and asked him to do this, his fellow dictator would in fact comply. This wrecks the fake distinction upon which Trump has hung his whole argument—the one between compelling Bukele to release Abrego Garcia and merely requesting that Bukele do so."

I've never been a fan of Sargent's writing either, so I'll save you the click through - as the author notes Trump also said a number of other very revealing things when the ABC reporter went in harder:

- when Moran pointed out that Trump's own answer meant he was violating a Supreme Court Order, Der Leader shifted the blame to his lawyers. As Sargent points out, this isn't an adequate answer because that means either Trump's lawyers are running the country, or he's *knowingly* violating multiple court orders.

- when pressed on the government's argument that Garcia is an MS-13 gang member, Trump said that the Maryland man had "MS-13" tattooed across his knuckles. As the reporter pointed out, Garcia does not; he has a leaf, a smiley face, a cross. and a skull, which the government labeled as meaning "MS-13" in a photo Trump himself displayed for news cameras, despite the fact that experts who study the gang have never seen those symbols associated with MS 13.

- after Moran told Trump the government had digitally altered the picture of Garcia's hand tattoos, Der Leader tossed his spaghetti. In an exchange that I think says a lot about how Trump sees the media's role in covering his presidency, the president snapped "Terry, they're giving you the big break of a lifetime. I picked you. But you're not being very nice."

I don't think it's time to break out the commemorative "All the President's Men" glasses just yet, but it is nice to see a mainstream corporate media outlet get into the weeds a little bit when Trump is openly lying into a camera, and you can definitely see why the White House is trying to stack the press pool full of Fox reporters, Newsmax hosts, and fascist Youtubers. Unravelling the regime's enforced unreality and governance by conspiracy theory is frightfully easy if you get to ask Trump any follow up questions.

In terms of the substance of what Trump said however, yeah I think he just hung himself on camera; for whatever that's even worth given the lawless behavior of the Trumpenreich regime. Trump could bring Garcia back, he just doesn't want to because he says Garcia is a "gang member" even though the government hasn't proven that, and won't ever be able to prove that in court.

"The evidence for Abrego Garcia’s alleged MS-13 ties is extremely thin. It’s largely based on the testimony of a Maryland cop who was suspended soon after and indicted for serious professional misconduct involving the sharing of confidential information with a sex worker. He pleaded guilty and was removed from the force.

The MS-13 claim isn’t just a vile smear. The idea that Abrego Garcia poses a severe public safety threat is the foundation for the administration’s entire rationale for not bringing him back and attempting to remove him again via lawful channels. Note that Trump suggested to Moran that if Abrego Garcia were not a gang member, Trump would bring him back.

So the administration should have to answer for the fact that the whole basis for not doing so is largely the finding of one disgraced cop. Yet neither Trump nor any senior administration officials have ever been questioned on this point."

In that same vein, I'd like to talk a little more about the regime's pattern of identifying the "criminal" they want to target, before determining what "crime" they're being charged with, in regards to its targeting of foreign students who expressed anti-genocide sentiments while legally studying in the United States. Nowhere is the authoritarian inversion of the process of legal enforcement more apparent than in the abduction, detainment, and attempted deportation of Rümeysa Öztürk, the Tufts University student targeted by the regime for writing an op-ed calling for the school to divest from its financial relationships with companies with direct or indirect ties to Israel, as it commits a genocide in Gaza.

What makes Öztürk's case so revealing is that we have access to a State Department memo that shows Foggy Bottom knew the regime had no case against her, and Secretary of State Marco Rubio was advised to use his (presumed) authority under the Immigration and Nationality Act to accomplish the desired goal - attempting to deport Öztürk for her completely legal exercise of free speech rights to criticize her school and its support for a genocide.

State Department Found No Evidence of DHS’s Reasons for Abducting Tufts Student

"The Washington Post reported on Sunday, citing a State Department memo, that the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and Immigrations and Customs Enforcement (ICE) had not provided any evidence of Öztürk engaging in activity labelled antisemitic or “terrorist” supporting. Additionally, searches of government databases did not turn up any evidence of Öztürk participating in terrorism-related activity.

As a result, Secretary of State Marco Rubio lacked grounds to revoke her visa under certain immigration provisions allowing him to do so. Instead, the department recommended a different authority under the Immigration and Nationality Act that legal experts cited by the Post say allow Rubio to revoke immigration status that does not require “a rationale and explanation and evidence.”

The agency recommended a “silent” revocation of Öztürk’s visa as part of that authority, the memo reportedly says, meaning that the administration would not notify her of the action.

Days later, immigration agents “disappeared” Öztürk, with footage showing that they swarmed her on the street outside of her home and forced her into an unmarked car."

Folks, this is literally the smoking gun that proves what anyone who isn't a disingenuous apologist already knows in their heart; the Trump regime is transforming the law into a weapon to punish protestors, intimidate dissidents, and suppress the free speech of folks who oppose Israel's ongoing genocide of Palestinians in Gaza. These fascist jackanapes are literally so incompetent that their own memos prove they're inverting the legal process to target portions of their political opposition in a very visible type of fascist ideological policing. Anyone still arguing that this isn't a fascist government while the Trump regime itself is more or less shouting "yes we're doing fascism" in its internal memos, is either a fool, or thinks you are.

While the abduction and attempts to deport every foreign student who participated in anti-genocide protests on American campuses are all important stories, I'm genuinely surprised Trump's targeting of Rumeysa Ozturk hasn't become a flashpoint in this larger story, the way the Abrego Garcia abduction has in the trafficking migrants to a torture prison in El Salvador scandal.

Frankly, demonizing anti-genocide protestors is a bipartisan sport in the American establishment, but the Ozturk abduction is unique in that she never participated in a protest; the regime is detaining and attempting to deport Ozturk because she wrote an op-ed calling for Tufts University to divest from Israel while it conducts a genocide, and the wrong people noticed. Specifically Canary Mission, a doxing group that specializes in harassing anti-genocide protestors in multiple Pig Empire nations. Soon after the group accused Ozturk of antisemitic activities; again, for writing an op-ed calling on Tufts to divest from Israel, she was snatched off the street by masked ICE agents in a video half the country watched and shared online.

This transcript of a recent interview with one of Ozturk's lawyers touched on the subject of the Trump regime obtaining target lists from an anonymous doxing group with unclear funding, and provides an update on Ozturk's legal fight; which appears to be going about as well as can be expected because all of this is fascist Calvinball bullshit designed to silence dissent and protect a genocide being conducted by an American client state.

“The Doxxing-to-Deportation Pipeline”: Update on Abduction & Jailing of Tufts Student Rümeysa Öztürk

"JUAN GONZÁLEZ: And could you talk about the role of Canary Mission and others like it in, essentially, identifying for the government people that they should be deporting?

MUDASSAR TOPPA: Yeah, and, you know, I think at this point there’s been a clear connection that we can draw — right? — from the doxxing organizations, the pro-Israeli doxxing organizations. And there is a clear doxxing-to-deportation pipeline that’s taking place.

And in Ms. Öztürk’s case, it’s even more apparent, because Ms. Öztürk was not a known organizer or advocate for any cause, really. And Ms. Öztürk’s sole sort of publicly identifiable association to the movement against the genocide and the movement for Palestinian human rights was this co-authored op-ed in her school newspaper that was really just asking the university to respect the wishes and the vote of the student Senate. And, you know, all of the sudden, in February of 2025, almost a year after she’s written — she’s co-written this op-ed, Canary Mission publishes a page on her, doxxing her and alleging that she’s engaged in antisemitic behavior because of this co-authored op-ed. And less than a month later, she’s abducted by ICE.

And so, it’s very chilling that the government seems to be taking their marching orders from these private doxxing organizations with mysterious funding and backing. And I think it underscores why the government’s actions are simply unconscionable."

Democracy Now! · “The Doxxing-to-Deportation Pipeline”: Update on Abduction & Jailing of Tufts Student Rümeysa ÖztürkBy Democracy Now!

“Evidence suggests that ICE did not transfer Rümeysa (Ozturk) to a Louisiana detention facility due to a lack of bed space in New England, as the government has claimed, but instead in an attempt to hand-pick the courts that will decide her case. These actions raise serious questions about the fairness and integrity of our immigration enforcement system and underscore what is at stake for all of us.” —Congresswoman Ayanna Pressley. #ICE #deportations #legal #deportation #kidnapping #TheSquad #Democrats #resistance #resist

Fascist Word Games and the Birth of an American Dictatorship

"t this point I’m honestly not sure how much more evidence fair minded people need to see before they understand the Trump regime’s farcical yet terrifying trafficking of hundreds of Venezuelan migrants to a torture prison in El Salvador had no basis in law or public safety, but was rather just a form of highly-effective fascist propaganda; a grand act of nazi theatre designed to inspire white nationalists, terrorize brown people, and shatter the legal checks on the Klepto Kaiser and his Christian Nationalist regime’s power."
