Happy birthday to #geochemist Charles David Keeling (1928 - 2005) whose decades long observations of CO2 in air samples from Mauna Loa Observatory were some of the 1st direct data to show the human contribution to greenhouse effect & global warming. The ‘Keeling Curve’ (in copper & red) shows both the seasonal variations (the wiggles) & the strong upward trend with time as the greenhouse gas built up in the atmosphere. 
My village had a festival so i opened my studio to “the public” for a free #printmaking activity. We repurposed a linen tablecloth, it brought lots of people joy, and these log cabin patches will hopefully be incorporated in future #craft #sewing projects!
That was a lot of fun and a lot of people at once. I’m grateful to get to share what I love with others-and also ready for solitude with books and art supplies. Hope you are having a good weekend!
I got some printmaking stuff for Christmas but I keep trying to make the design too complicated and the blocks haven't been usable, so today I went really simple. There are loads of things "wrong" with it (including a cat hair over the word "love"!) but I absolutely adore it.

‘Cottontail in the cosmos’ is a handprinted lino block print on lovely, delicate Japanese paper of a little cottontail rabbit sitting amongst the garden cosmos (also called Mexican aster flowers). The flowers are a mix of white and purple-pink. Each print is 8” by 10” (20.3 cm by 25.4 cm) and printed by hand.

I'm experimented some more with linocut printing. Yesterday, I was scanning some of my drawings, which involved a lot of waiting. So I tried carving another pattern. Today, I did a simple test print. Not too bad, for a beginner. If I improve enough, I might start making these as thank you gifts for my supporters on Patreon.
A print of a neighbor of mine. Inspired by photos by @lzg, I've also started taking pictures of the dogs I encounter in my walks.

Another older rabbit print, I made this linocut as part of my Chinese zodiac series. I wanted the rabbit to appear bathed in moonlight to allude to the myth of the moon rabbit, companion of Chang’e the moon goddess, continually pounding the elixir of life with mortar and pestle.

Thinking about pollinators, so sharing a favourite. This is a hand-printed lino block print of the charming Hummingbird Clearwing moth (Hermaris thysbe) seeking pollen from cherry blossoms. The olive-headed burgundy moth has transparent wings (though colour can be variable). It beats its wings rapidly to hover above flowers, like a hummingbird, meaning it is often confused with a hummingbird or bee. It has a 5 cm wingspan.

*I am somewhat dubious of this date because a) I was trained to use the metric convention day/month/year and b) physicists use the reduced constant h-bar (that’s h divided by 2 pi) and then, cause it’s easier they just change units such that h-bar = 1 but it’s as good an excuse as any

A linocut birthday present for my mum. She was asking the other day if I could do violets, so I thought I’d give it a go. There are lots in the garden at the moment, making it a great time to do studies.
