photosThis isn't really photography so folks looking for cool photos can skip this (I'll be sharing more photos from my Alaska trip last summer soon!)<br><br>The new store is in part a bit of a principled experiment. While I wish I could work on BitByBit Photo stuff full time, I do have a day job and it's in IT. One trend I really don't like is FOMO. The amount of effort and cost to make sure everything is redundant has both real (in terms of $$$) costs and has caused concerning consolidation of most of the Internet down to a few major cloud providers.<br><br>What does this have to do with my new store? Well, it's hosted on the Dell Wyse you see in the photo. Next to it is my Pleroma server which hosts a few accounts (including this one).<br><br>That Wyse cost me $50. Now yes it's true I have a pretty fast connection to the Internet and my store is teeny tiny and I'm an IT guy where I have the skills to manage servers on my own. Not everyone can do that for sure.<br><br>I guess my point is, I don't need wild costly infrastructure or 15 different cloud instances to run my store. I can run the thing on 8W of power. Is it redundant? No. That means there might be times when the store is down from time to time. I'm ok with that. I feel like the Internet at large needs to be ok with not all things having the redundancy of a nuclear power plant and that's just fine.<br><br>Or I'm completely wrong and this was a dumb idea. I guess we'll find out! Cost-wise this saves me a _pile_ of money over trying to host this anywhere else and I think is well worth the redundancy trade-off.<br><br><a class="hashtag" href="https://social.bitbybitwhatever.com/tag/dellwyse" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#DellWyse</a> <a class="hashtag" href="https://social.bitbybitwhatever.com/tag/minimalhosting" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#MinimalHosting</a> <a class="hashtag" href="https://social.bitbybitwhatever.com/tag/baremetal" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#BareMetal</a> <a class="hashtag" href="https://social.bitbybitwhatever.com/tag/lowpower" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#LowPower</a> <a class="hashtag" href="https://social.bitbybitwhatever.com/tag/notredundant" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#NotRedundant</a> <a class="hashtag" href="https://social.bitbybitwhatever.com/tag/it" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#IT</a> <a class="hashtag" href="https://social.bitbybitwhatever.com/tag/thinclient" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#ThinClient</a> <a class="hashtag" href="https://social.bitbybitwhatever.com/tag/isthisabadidea" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#IsThisABadIdea</a>
