The cuirass and helmet of King Philip II of Macedon, father of Alexander the Great, is a notable example of ancient Macedonian armor, made of bronze and adorned with gold decorations.

Philip II was a key historical figure known for his military innovations and kingdom expansion. In 339 BC, he suffered a severe lance wound to his leg during a battle, which resulted in a permanent limp.

On this day 32 yrs ago, on my cycle to Istanbul, I was cycling in the newly independent republic of Macedonia. After lunch in Skopje I followed a bone-jarring cobbled road for a long way before it turned into a dirt track, ultimately disappearing in darkness on the top of a mountain where I lay down and slept. The mountain was north of the town of, what was then (still) called, Titov Veles.

After the nationalists from #VMRO -DPMNE, now their supposedly pro-EU #Albanian partners from #VLEN are stopping the inclusion of the local #Bulgarians in the country's constitution.
They live in #Macedonia for centuries' but are subject of discrimination. Their inclusion in the constitution, along with other nationalities, is a requirement of the EU for the start of membership negotiations.
