If Marxist-Leninist states were ideologically strong enough to handle criticism, they wouldn't have to ban any opposition to their states. If your entire state would crumble just from people being allowed to openly criticize and protest against it, then your state is too weak and fragile to exist, and it certainly isn't a state of the people.

Rudolf Rocker (1873–1958) was a prominent German anarchist writer and activist, best known for his advocacy of anarcho-syndicalism.

Rocker argued that genuine liberation cannot be achieved through authoritarian systems or centralized state power.

Rocker was deeply critical of the Bolshevik regime in Russia, viewing it as a betrayal of the ideals of freedom and workers’ self-management.

He believed that the Bolsheviks simply replaced one form of oppression with another, demonstrating that real emancipation cannot come from top-down control.

I think it is a very natural reaction to feel inclined towards uncritical acceptance of non-western political narratives in response to disillusionment with what you know of the world being exposed as western propaganda. It is important, however, not to take recognition of western disinformation as immunity to propaganda. Disillusionment with one narrative is not evidence of another.

One of the most clear examples of this is with leftists that rightfully point out the sensationalism of western narratives about North Korea, but who ultimately end up pedalling the equally sensationalized and misleading state propaganda of North Korea.

We can do better than that. Leftism grows from being critical about the world. We do ourselves a disservice, then, when we don't adequately apply that critical lens to ourselves or movements that claim to be leftist--denying ourselves the opportunity to grow from that criticism.
