It's been reported over the last couple years that the contents of push notifications were accessible by the mobile providers who ran the push notification services and were being subpoenaed by various governments (meaning they could also fall into the hands of other parties in the case of a breach).

I had read that mobile applications can take steps to protect the content of notifications (either encrypting them or making them nothing more than a "check the server" message to the application), but I have no idea how to figure out which applications may be protecting notifications. Do people try to keep lists of this (even incomplete ones)?
