My favorite Mourning Dove Thing is when they're eating under the feeder and are perpetually surprised when a seed falls on them.
Like yeah I get it the first few times, but sometimes they've been standing there for a few minutes, the tenth seed bounces off their wing, and they still look up to see if they're under attack
Morning Couple
These two mourning doves (Zenaida macroura), often come and sit on my back fence in the morning and watch. It's as if they are waiting for the right moment to look for breakfast. Unlike rock doves, mourning doves never feed at my bird feeders. They only forage on the ground around the feeders.
"Seeds make up 99 percent of a Mourning Dove’s diet, including cultivated grains and even peanuts, as well as wild grasses, weeds, herbs, and occasionally berries. They sometimes eat snails. Mourning Doves eat roughly 12 to 20 percent of their body weight per day, or 71 calories on average." - allaboutbirds.org

Leucistic mourning dove. We saw what we thought was a white dove hanging with our mourning doves about a year ago. Not sure if this is the same one or an offspring. Isn't it pretty?
I spotted General hanging out on one of the awning struts this morning.
My other half spent a great deal of time and effort building trust with him last spring, so this OG isn't bothered much by our comings and goings. -- even when we're chasing the squirrels away from the feeder.

I could’ve sworn there were two dove chicks, but I only see the one? I wonder what happened to the other one? Maybe it took its first flight? Sadly I won’t get a chance to see this one grow up and take its first flight as we are now on the next leg of our journey.

Everytime #MourningDoves fly away, they make a particular sound as they fly. It's like if a person said "weeeee!" every time they got up from one seat while they walked to another seat
