Hi Friends!

I'm part of a new project with lots of rad #archivists, #OralHistorians, #publicHistorians, and others:

The Southern Memory Workers Collaborative

The central idea is that our #movements need #memoryworkers now more than ever. However, the barriers to learning the skills of #archival science, #oralhistory, and related fields remain significant, especially in the #Southern U.S.

We're looking for ways to increase capacity in the region.

Lao Socialism with Buddhist Characteristics

monthlyreview.org/2025/04/01/l

Through the doctrine of karma, it encourages a prudent approach to natural resource use and discourages greed and overexploitation. This ecological ethic has shaped Lao environmental policies and practices, fostering the integration of 'green growth' principles into national development strategies.

Monthly Review · Monthly Review | Lao Socialism with Buddhist CharacteristicsThis article will be released in full online April 14, 2025. Yumeng Liu takes a deep dive into the history of Laos, the only socialist nation among the Theravāda Buddhist countries of Southeast Asia…

Off to Birmingham today to talk about #Queer(ing) #Ecologies, and #Reimagining our relationship with ecology and nature, for STEM, LGBTQ and You!

This is a culminated talk.

Culminated from the many interactions I've had in the last few months and years even with ecology through so many lenses, be this #decolonial #theory in #conservation and ecology, #critical ecology, queering theories and practices, techniques and behaviours of #divestment, #discussions on #regeneration and #movements

I'm not a fan of Rachel Shabi and disagree with her a lot, including with parts of this article. But she is circling an important recognition of the left ceding the ground of antisemitism to the right. To all our detriment.

"With the #farright in ascendancy across the world, #Jewish people turned to leftist movements that had long served as our political homes—and found them not only lacking the language to speak to what was happening but also often mired in ignorance over #antisemitism. As American communications specialist Sharon Goldtzvik told me: “We as #progressives should be leading on the issue of antisemitism, but it has become a critical vulnerability, rather than a critical strength.’” This Achilles heel has been seized upon by the #rightwing, derailing #progressive #movements and thwarting efforts at social, economic, and climate #justice across the world."

The Nation · Some Inconvenient Truths About Antisemitism and the LeftBy ceding the space on antisemitism—responding when we are accused of it, but not taking up the fight against it as our cause—we’ve created a strategic opportunity for the right.
New to Pixelfed, and here to see if there should be an interesting community for artists. I work with watercolour, collage, textiles and also some beadwork. This is a combination of hand painted watercolour and digitally edited collage work.

Library Juice AcademySolidarity Memory Work - Library Juice AcademyMemory work is a broad category of practices, including archival science, librarianship, oral history, journalism, community history, and others, that seek to document a place, community, or event. Solidarity memory work is the application of these practices in explicit solidarity with movements and causes. As our society confronts contemporary civil rights struggles, solidarity memory work is quickly solidifying as a central site of documenting, sharing and preserving the stories of those on the front line. In this class, participants will explore the unique position of memory workers within the broader landscape of political organizing work. (3/N) The first (adapted) question of the #ThreadModelingManifesto is:

  1. What are you working on?

The answer in a business context is usually a set of "#assets" that are worth protecting.

Individuals seem to struggle more than businesses with brainstorming specific and relevant "assets", though. The mental link to potential threats seems to be hard to make. That's why I suggest to reflect on a few abstract assets, first – how much do these matter to you, relatively?

🛌 #Safety and #wellbeing

Your freedom. Having a home. Your physical and mental integrity. Your autonomy. Having a space of your own, with your boundaries being respected. Creative space and time, free from interference. Being able to own things; or in some cultures, to participate in shared stewardship, and benefit from commons. Integrity of objects and data that belong to you, or that you depend on.

🗺️ Your #locations and #movements

Where exactly your domicile is. Your travel plans. The freedom to move and to gather, without surveillance or tracking. The right to solitude.

👤 Your #privacy, and your #anonymity

Being able to stay incognito, or pseudonymous. Deciding who gets to know what about you. The option of repudiating claims about what you allegedly believe, have said, or have done – regardless of the facts.

🔗 Your #relationships

Knowledge about your family, friends and significant others. Your reputation and public standing. The freedom to associate with others. Knowledge about your memberships, the communities you belong to, and your employment, including the specific hierarchies within those contexts.

💭 Your #personality

Your identity and its facets, including gender. Political affiliations, and religious beliefs. Your hobbies, love interests, feelings, intentions, behaviors, habits, and preferences.

🔓 #Access and #infrastructure

Access to information, goods, and services. Availability of a functional infrastructure that enables such access.
