#Trump AG #PamBondi rescinded Order No. 6370-2025 as ordered in today’s hearing & issued a new Order No. 6372-2025 to avoid Judge Reyes issuing a #TRO.

The new Order is attached (pic).

The key change in the orders is that #DEA chief Terry Cole is NOT named the commissioner of the #DC #police but rather the AG’s *designee* [Assistant to the Regional Manager].

#DCAG Schwalb said that #Trump’s assertion of total control & #PamBondi’s attempt to rewrite #MPD policy are entirely outside of the bounds of temporarily using local law enforcement for a “federal purpose." He also argued that the actions violated the District clause of the #Constitution, which gives #Congress ultimate #authority & #oversight of the capital & its laws, & Congress’s #HomeRule Act intended to narrowly limit the president’s authority & gave the mayor authority over #police.

After hearing arguments on an emergency request from #DC officials to block the #Trump admin’s #takeover of the 3,100-member #MPD, US District Judge Ana C. Reyes forged a compromise of sorts between the 2 sides—without issuing a ruling—on the key question of who runs the #police dept.

But the court did not rule on another key aspect of the case: Whether Trump can commandeer DC police officers to enforce #immigration violations. That issue is likely to be resolved next week, Reyes said.

#DCAG Schwalb argues the new order goes beyond #Trump’s authority & implementing it would “sow chaos” in the #MPD. “The administration’s unlawful actions are an affront to the dignity & autonomy of the 700,000 Americans who call #DC home. This is the gravest threat to #HomeRule that the District has ever faced, & we are fighting to stop it,” Schwalb said.

#WashingtonDC sues to block #Trump #federal #takeover of its #police department as crackdown intensifies

The nation’s capital sued to block Trump’s takeover of its PD in court on Friday, hours after his admin escalated its intervention into the city’s law enforcement by naming a federal official as the new *emergency* #PoliceCommissioner.

In addition to codifying Cole’s role within the dept, #PamBondi issued several other orders Thurs, including removing limitations on the ability of city #police to inquire about residents’ #immigration status or assist #federal agents in immigration enforcement activities. She also directed the #MPD to fully enforce a section of the city code that makes it a misdemeanor offense to continue obstructive #demonstrations in public areas after being ordered by officers to disperse.

#PamBondi’s directive appeared designed to put to rest questions over the #Trump admin’s view of the chain of command in the city’s #police dept. Trump named Cole on Monday to oversee the #MPD. And while Chief Pamela A. Smith has said she’s working cooperatively with Trump admin officials, she told reporters Tues that the organizational chart had not changed & that she remained in charge reporting to Mayor #MurielBowser (D).

🚨USAG #PamBondi has named the head of the #DEA as #Washington, #DC’s “*Emergency* #PoliceCommissioner,” saying she is granting him the powers of the #police chief amid the #federal #takeover.🚨

Bondi said in a directive issued Thurs night DEA boss Terry Cole will assume “powers & duties vested in the District of Columbia Chief of Police.” The #MPD “must receive approval from Commissioner Cole” before issuing any orders.

#Trump's moves toward taking over #Washington are unprecedented. Here's what the #law says

Section 740 of the #HomeRule Act allows for the president to take over Washington’s Metropolitan Police Department #MPD for 48 hours, with possible extensions to 30 days, during times of *emergencies*. No president has done so before, said Monica Hopkins, executive director of the ACLU of Washington.

"The #HomeRule charter requires the mayor to provide the services of #MPD during special conditions of an #emergency, & we will follow the #law, though there's a question about the subjectivity of that declaration."
#Bowser also said that all law enforcement should be identifiable.
"We will continue to make this clear that this is needed in our city, that all law enforcement be identifiable by a uniform, a badge, a jacket, so that people know that they are law enforcement."

After changing my rpi4 to use pipewire instead of alsa direct, mpd will stop play a sound track (wav file) on loop for almost 6 hours, without drama. After that time it will go silent and repeatedly log "pipewire_output: Decoder is too slow; playing silence to avoid xrun". I have to manually stop it then restart it and it starts again.

This doesn't make sense, it played it for almost 6 hours without issues. Any ideas?

Five years after the murder of George Floyd at the hands of a cracker murderpig named Derek Chauvin, it's easy to look at police murder and use of force statistics, as well as a white nationalist Trump regime, and conclude the 2020 uprising failed; which is precisely what a pro-cop liberal "reformist" chatterati is doing. The reality is however that "a system cannot fail those it was never designed to protect" and the lack of legislative progress to protect our civil rights from police abuses falls on the elected reformers not advocates and abolitionists in the streets. The 2020 Uprising taught us to band together because we are all targets in for the carceral state in the right circumstances; and just in time too, because Donald Trump is dead serious about transforming law enforcement into his own fascist army.

The Widening Maw of Racialized Police Violence

"The reality is that Downmarket Mussolini has only been back in the White House for four and a half months, and these police killing statistics go back years into a Biden administration that was elected in part, to specifically stop racialized police violence in response to the protests; the city where George Floyd was slowly murdered on camera by a sociopathic cop is in a Democratic-controlled State, run by one of the most progressive Governors in America. For a larger liberal establishment in the United States that had no answer for Trump at the ballot box to point at the Kelpto Kaiser’s racist authoritarian regime and declare the movement against police violence and white supremacist policing has failed, is one part deflection, and one part scapegoating. It is ultimately reductive to argue that the 2020 George Floyd protests were by themselves responsible for the broader fascist “white-lash” driving Trump’s second rise to power in an already white supremacist America, and disempowering to believe organized resistance against that white supremacy accomplished nothing merely because a state that was never designed to protect racialized people, or the labor class in general, refused to take meaningful action against police violence. Those hard-fought hours in the streets opened a broad swathe of society’s eyes to the racist and violent nature of American policing, taught communities across the globe how to organize in the face of state-sanctioned repression, and helped make so many young people “woke” that the fascist Trump regime is trying to make “wokeness” illegal. We cannot un-see what we have observed, or unknow what we learned during the uprising, and the affliction of knowing cannot be cured with rubber bullets and tear gas."
