Od 2016 roku badamy jak polskie prawo chroni, czy może bardziej precyzyjnie, nie chroni zwierząt. Z tych badań jednoznacznie wynika, że kary za przestępstwa przeciwko zwierzętom nie są ani dotkliwe, ani edukacyjne, dając osobom skazanym poczucie bezkarności.
Jednym z głównych powodów takiego stanu rzeczy jest konieczność udowodnienia sprawcy, że działał/a zamiarem bezpośrednim, tzn. jego/jej intencją było zadanie cierpienia swojej ofierze. Powoduje to, że jedynie ok. 20% zgłaszanych przypadków przemocy wobec zwierząt kończy się sporządzeniem aktu oskarżenia. Większość sprawców/sprawczyń unika odpowiedzialności mimo, że ich czyny lub zaniedbania miały cechy znęcania się nad zwierzętami.
Chcemy zmienić ten stan rzeczy, dlatego ruszyliśmy razem z ponad 70 innymi organizacjami z petycją do Ministra sprawiedliwości o zmiany w tym zakresie. Jest jeszcze szansa dołączyć do tej inicjatywy, bo im więcej organizacji dołączy, tym większe szanse na zmianę.

After 3 months that I have created an open letter trying to persuade politicians to leave X, I have just noticed a very interesting number. In 10 days, the petition that endorses the letter got more than 1500 signatures. From that day in, that is more than 80 days, there were less than 1000 new signatures. There were two people with several followers here on the Fediverse sharing the petition right after it was started, @randahl and @eloquence . I wonder if that's the reason there were so many signatures in a few days, then it faded out. Or maybe there is some network effect when it comes to online petitions.
I still believe that politics is done face to face. Unfortunately, I haven't found an organization to take over the petition, which would make it easier to gather signatures on the streets. I've talked to a few, and I'll keep trying.

A parliamentary committee has voted down a raft of amendments from right-wing lawmakers seeking to incorporate sharp criticism of EU funding for non-governmental organisations into the discharge of the bloc’s 2023 budget.
The European Parliament’s budgetary control committee has provisionally signed off on the EU’s 2023 budget, largely voting down attempts by right-wing law makers to include harsh criticism of funding for non-governmental organisations in its final report.
As well as rejecting a joint proposal by members of Hungary’s ruling Fidesz party and France’s Rassemblement National to condemn an “enormous EU-NGO propaganda complex”, the committee rejected a slew of amendments tabled by conservative European People’s Party (EPP) lawmaker Monika Hohlmeier.
Among them was a call for the EU Court of Auditors (ECA) to conduct a probe specifically into the LIFE Programme, the bloc’s funding instrument for environmental projects on the ground, a small portion of which supports campaign groups through operating grants.
