I've been in the software field for some time. Many - perhaps most - of the software and systems engineers that I've worked with have had an interest in system security, or at least in not introducing obvious security holes into what they were building.

This was a good thing.

But somewhere along the way, this kind of thing got normalized. We've taught a new cadre of programmers that security doesn't matter if it slows you down or inconveniences you in the slightest way. No one should ever be doing this, with the possible exception of the script you're fetching being one you wrote yourself, and even then I wouldn't trust that it hadn't been tampered with.

As a result, I'm really not surprised at the level of (in)security in deployed systems these days.

I was initially attracted to the symmetries between the steps, the huge windows and the shadows. The photo still needed the right character to appear and so I was very happy when the old man with the hat and overcoat appeared. Luckily the crowds parted at just the right moment (the museum was ridiculously busy) and I was able to capture him slowly and quite poignantly descending the stairs.

Gotta make sure to post my old man, Rascal. We estimated he's around 16 years old, and I adopted him after his owners were kicked out of their pet friendly rental so the landlord could sell the house. He had been returned to the shelter 4 times before then, because he was apparently a flight risk and consistently jumped his owner's fences!

Me: Uuuugh. Is it worth clicking? <click>
<unfunny, predictable thing with a cat>
I believe it.

I've never *once* seen a funny short-form video from one of these sites. A few yustubs, like the ProZD skits were amusing when he had time to do Dragon Emperor and Chair-kun dramas in 15 seconds.

So I think now if it's vertical, and <2 minutes, I'm not clicking anything anymore.

Heading over to the High School for the first tennis meet of the season. My youngest is a Senior, so this feels a little like a “beginning of the end” type of thing. I’m not sad. I’m very proud of my kids and am excited for the next stages. But it definitely feels like a transitional time.
