Most of #Europe stops #shipping #packages to the United States - TheStreet

As of August 26, a number of countries outside of the U.S. are now refusing to ship most packages, and more countries will soon follow their lead. This could be a big problem for consumers across the United States who are used to the flexibility to order from just about anywhere, which is a big perk of having free trade.

My #NixOS #setup. Even when I #ported it once to #another #machine, I #forgot to add the #user #password. So I kind of went into a #ghost user #session. All i did is #reboot and chose previous #generation corrected my #config and that's all. No need for #backup, #rescue #disk etc. I corrected my configs, now it's truly portable. All my setup is #rock #solid #stable and never #broke it though I use a lot of #unstable #packages. #Nix and #NixOS are just 🔥 ❤️

Granted I'd not use that for #packages because I want to use the regular-ass #wget implementation as included in #toybox for that because it's already there...

step 1: find something you like on flakehub: flakehub.com/flake/zhaofengli/

step 2: generate base `flake.nix` with 'fh init'

step 3: add the flake you liked with `fh add`

step 4: do `pkgs.dockerTools.buildLayeredImage` with an output of the flake + whatever else you need (like ca certs), cf. gist.github.com/fasterthanlime (note: this flake has room for improvement)

step 5: `nix build .#packages.containerImage.x86_64-linux`

step 6: `docker load < result`

step 7: `docker image ls` + enjoy

#Etsy gave the #buyer an estimated delivery date of 5 January.

Despite the #holiday rush, when #packages are always slower, despite the #holidays when Canada Post and others are closed, they provided him an estimate right at the bottom end of that "official" #estimate.

And then, the buyer will probably (rightly) be angry when it takes until February, because Etsy promised it on 5 January.

And they don't provide a way to override the estimate they display.

Is there something #wrong with #Digikey's ordering/delivery? Fast #shipping is their thing; it's practically their #USP.

"Most #packages arrive (in #Canada) in 24 hours".

I've placed half a dozen orders in the last month and a bit, and it seems that every single one hasn't even #shipped for 2 or 3 days after I place the order. Everything I've ordered was in #stock (and not marginally; "27,563 in stock" type of thing).

Anyone else seeing this?

So, the whole thing where #CanadaPost has been #illegally taking #information from the #mail you receive, including your #name, #address, and the #retailers you are getting #packages from, and building a #marketing #database from it, which they then #sell to #advertising mailing list services, is ~~interesting~~ #infuriating.

"Oh, but you can opt out!" they say.

It should be opt-in, of course, but then no one would do so.

So go to opt out... well-played, Canada Post.

@droopus Also of notice. #Mastodon really sits atop a much broader framework of #decentralized #application #packages called the #Fediverse that all use a common very recent #protocol which allows them to #communicate with each other: #ActivityPub

It includes many other apps I know little about like #PixelFed (image sharing), #PeerTube (videos) and so on. This is a bustling new #world being born right in front of our very eyes! And it's #opensource #amazing
