Anthony Sorace<p>If you use Acme Mail on Plan 9 or Plan 9 from User Space, I'm curious: do you mostly use:</p><p><a href="https://pdx.social/tags/acme" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>acme</span></a> <a href="https://pdx.social/tags/plan9" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>plan9</span></a></p>
lonequantum<p>Et hop ! KaiXinIt's true on <a href="https://snac.bsd.cafe?t=fediverse" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#Fediverse</a> it seems that everyone is running some <a href="https://snac.bsd.cafe?t=unix" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#unix</a> stuff, be it <a href="https://snac.bsd.cafe?t=linux" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#Linux</a> or <a href="https://snac.bsd.cafe?t=bsd" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#BSD</a> or even <a href="https://snac.bsd.cafe?t=plan9" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#plan9</a> and alike. In real life people see your screen and ask "hey you're running <a href="https://snac.bsd.cafe?t=macos" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#MacOS</a> or what?" and you say "oh no it's Linux " and 90% of time they are like "what?say that again??" 😂😂😂<br>

SpookThinking about my coworker's (a guy in his late fifties who had a passing experience with <a class="hashtag" href="https://pleroma.m68k.church/tag/plan9" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#Plan9</a> way back in the day) reaction when I told him about <a class="hashtag" href="https://pleroma.m68k.church/tag/9front" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#9front</a>. <br>&gt;Huh, it has to be a mental illness. In a good way, mind you, but still a mental illness.

As to servers/relays: there are a lot of well working alternative stacks -- <a href="https://chaos.social/tags/chatmail" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>chatmail</span></a> core even runs with some <a href="https://chaos.social/tags/Plan9" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Plan9</span></a> mail server stack apart from the many classic email server implementations. Replacing Rust Core is possible but considerable work. Beating its maturity and cross-platform portability would require a serious effort. Not impossible, though. FWIW most other messenger projects (<a href="https://chaos.social/tags/Signal" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Signal</span></a>, <a href="https://chaos.social/tags/matrix" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>matrix</span></a>, etc.) are trying to move towards Rust.</p>
