@amineca : in the village (*) I live in, there's a repair cafe every second wednesday of the month.

(*) With the only "pyramid" in NL: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pyramid_

I joined the repair people this month for the first time, and was happy to do some fixing.

I met a number of very kind people, and it is unbelievably rewarding to help people and see how that cheers them up - even if their problems are kind of silly.

I'll definitely be present again in one and a half weeks time!

A pyramid has been found in the Judean Desert near the Dead Sea. It is over 2000 years old and contains many ancient Greek artefacts. For example historical documents, coins, weapons and furniture. But the archaeologists are stumped as to what the pyramid's purpose was. Theories put forward have been a guard tower, monument or even a tax collector's fortress! The pyramid is made of hand hewn stones that weigh hundreds of kilograms each.

Чтобы точно успеть на первую маршрутку из Вальядолида, пришёл к 6.30 за полчаса до ее отправления. И там уже ждали ещё несколько сумасшедших 😀

Первым делом побежал к пирамиде Кукулькана. Подумалось, что у неё тоже есть рабочая сторона - самые эффектные кадры получаются при ракурсе с угла.

Visualization of the Giza necropolis as it would have appeared just after the completion of the last pyramid, sometime around 2800 BCE, looking west a few hours after dawn.

The Giza pyramid’s smooth casings of polished limestone and gold-plated pyramidions make the tombs significantly larger than they appear today. Placed without any gaps for thermal expansion, the casing on Khufu’s Great pyramid, seen on the right, will begin to crack after a few decades.

Earthquakes, architectural robbery and deliberate damage over the following millennia will hasten the process of destruction, reducing the pyramids to the state they are seen in today.

Hidden below the peaks of the dunes are the Sphinx and associated mortuary temples together with the worker city to the south, abandoned now that the decades-long construction project is finally complete.

... Once, in Egypt, I lay beneath the feet of a Sphinx. I thought that its body was all that remained of a proud empire, and I whispered a prayer for the soul of such a magnificent creature to find peace.

But I was wrong. It was not a lifeless stone body, but a long slumber after losing a battle of wits.

I asked more questions, but the time for riddles had long passed, leaving only echoes trapped within the grains of sand, colliding with each other under the merciless breath of the warm wind of the necropolis.
