The Royal Navy (UK) Aircraft Carrier HMS Queen Elizabeth Departs Portsmouth

This Is A Black And White Maritime / Seascape Photo In Landscape Format. A Calm And Sunlit Sea Fills The Lower Quarter Of The Image. Stretching From Slightly Right Of Centre Towards The Left Margin And Taking Up About Seventy-Five Percent Of The Length Of The Photo Is A Large (284m) Light Grey Aircraft Carrier. The View Is Oblique With The Stern And Port Beam In Sight. Surrounding The Vessel Are Four Tugs With Some More Out Of Sight And A Few Escort Launches. The Ship Is Distinctive Having A Ski Jump Ramp On The Bow Enabling Its F-35 V/STOL Aircraft To Become Airborne Without The Aid Of A Catapult. Also Unusual Are The Two Islands (Superstructures Above The Deck On The Starboard Side) The Forward Island For Navigation And Ship Operations, The Aft For Airborne Operation. Both Islands Bristle With Antennae. Beyond The Ship Is A Hazy Sky.

An Unusual Photo Of A Container Ship In Good Order And Underway Without A Residential House Or Garden Within 2 Metres Of The Bow

This Is A High Contrast Black And White Seascape Photo In Landscape Format. Filling The Lower Third Of The Frame Is A Body Of Calm Sea Water. Just Below The Horizon Is An Oblique View And Seen From The Stern, Of A Very Large Container Ship Underway From Left To Right. The Ship Stretches From The Left To Right Margins. Above Deck Are Thousands Of Stacked (Nine High In Places) Forty Foot Shipping Containers. The Containers Are Of Many Colours Rendered Into Different Tones In Black And White. The Low Sun Is Illuminating The Starboard Side Of The Weathered Hull And Containers Though The Stern Is In Shadow. The Hull Is Hull Is Black With 'UASC' In Vast White Bold Letters, The Initials Of The 'United Arab Shipping Company'. Just Visible On The Stern Are The Vessel's Name 'SAJIR' And 'Majuro' The Port Of Registry. The Hull Is Black And The Superstructure, White, As Is Common On Merchant Shipping. Above The Ship And In the Near Distance Is A Cloudy And Stormy Sky Made Up Of Cumulus And Developing Cumulonimbus Clouds.
The 368 Metre (1200ft) Sajir Is Leaving The Port Of Southampton And Threading Her Way Through The Deep Water Channel Towards The English Channel (2019).

The Historic Hurtigruten Ferry MS Lofoten Sailing Northbound Through The Breisundet In Norway's Arctic North.

This Is A Black And White Seascape / Maritime Photo In Landscape Format. Rising Upward To The Two-Third Point Of The Frame Is A Body Of Calm Water. Below The Centre Of The Image Is A Stern View Of A Medium Sized Sea Going Ferry. The View Is Aligned With The Ship's Axis, So The Stern And Topsides Are In View: The Sides Are Not. Like So Many Merchant Ships The Hull Is Black While The Superstructure Is White. The Stern Is Rounded As Is The Superstructure Immediately Above. The Ships Name 'MS LOFOTEN' Is In Bold Black Letters Above The Hull Together With Her Port Of Registry 'Tromsø'. Above The Black Hull Are Three Decks. A Few Passengers Can Be Seen On The Upper Two. On That Upper Deck There Are Four Open Lifeboats Hanging From Davits, Two On Either Side. There Is A Single, Small Raked Funnel Aft But Without Any Smoke Or Fumes Visible. Forward Of The Funnel Is A Tall White Mast With A Number Of Aerials And The Shipping Line's Pennant. Ahead Of Our Ship And Perhaps Two km Away Is A Steep And Rocky Cliff, The Upper Part Covered In A Light Dusting Of Snow.
Our Ship Was In Service With The Hurtigruten Coastal Express Between Bergen And Kirkenes From 1964 To 2020 And Has Now Been Repurposed As A Training Ship. The Location Is In The Breisundet, 71º North Of The Equator, High In Norway's Arctic North (2018).

Two container ships pass in the Los Angeles main channel

This Is A Black And White Seascape Photo In Landscape Format. The Lower Twenty-Five Per Cent Of The Frame Is Filled With A Body Of Still Dark Water. In The Far Left Are Three Old Cranes On The Waterfront With Their Booms Raised Skywards. To The Left Of Centre Is An Oblique View Of A Large Container Ship Underway And Heading Towards The Camera. The Ship, Like Most Merchant Ships, Has A Dark Hull And White Superstructure. Above Deck Are Multiple Stacked Shipping Containers, Mostly Of A Dark Tone But Some White. A Stream Of Black Smoke Rises Vertically In The Still Morning Air From The Funnel At The Stern. Two Tugs Are Just Visible, One By The Ships Starboard Bow And One At The Stern. The Ships Company Name Is In Large Bold White Letters On The Beam 'YANG MING'. To The Right Of Centre Is A Stern View Of Another Large Container Ship, Roughly The Same Size As The First, Again Under Way But In An Opposite Direction And About Twenty Or Thirty Metres To One Side Of The First. This Second Ship Has Its Decks Stacked With Shipping Containers, A Dark Hull, White Superstructure, A Little Less Dark Smoke From The Funnel And A Single Large Tug In View At The Stern. The Ships Name 'KOTA CAHAYA' Just Visible As Is The Port Of Registry - 'Singapore'. Above This Maritime Scene Is A Clear And Cloudless Sky.
The Location Is The Los Angeles Main Channel. The First Ship Inbound To The Container Terminal, The Second Outbound To The Pacific Ocean (2018).

A Simple Low Contrast Colour Photo In Landscape Format. Nearly All The Image Is Filled With The Still Waters Of A River. Neither Bank Is In View. The Central Area Stretching From The Top To The Bottom Has A Wide Bright Strip Of Reflected Light From The Overcast Sky. The Left And Right Edges Have A Dark Green Tint. The Entire Surface Of The River Has Round Splash Marks From Falling Rain. To The Right Of Centre And Aligned With The Camera Is A Long Dragon Boat. It Is Moored Bow Facing The Camera And Only A Short Distance Away. Forward Of The Bow Is The Bowsprit In The Form Of A Colourful Dragon, Jaws And Eyes Wide Open. Aft Are Fourteen Positions For Her Crew With A Rowlock On The Sten For A Paddle/Tiller In Order To Steer.
