“Kindness is a language which the deaf can hear and the blind can see.”
― Mark Twain

The kind people of Tashkourgan. It is my second time to visit. A lot changed in the last 8 years, the cities of the West, the buildings, the police control. All is now clad in an identikit Chinese Disneyland, overseen by an ever seeing big brother. Identity exchanged for "eradication of poverty". But the people, the people have remained like remembered them from back in 2016. Kind.

The powerful game of Kok-Burro at the shores of Lake Son-Kul. What an incredible skill and horsemanship of the Kyrgyz people. One can only be in awe of the raw force in animal, human and the surrounding nature.

The high mountains between Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan. What a wondrous border between countries ... . And a high one at that.

“The Mongol period opened up trade routes along the #SilkRoad, which benefited some Rus regions economically. However, the heavy tribute burden and destruction of major cities like #Kiev also led to economic hardship and population shifts, with many people moving northeast, helping lay the foundation for the rise of #Moscow.”

“I like trains. I like their rhythm, and I like the freedom of being suspended between two places, all anxieties of purpose taken care of: for this moment I know where I am going.”
― Anna Funder

Somewhere in Uzbekistan.
Trains are just the most wonderful form of travel - and the Uzbek trains a stark reminder of the trains of my youth, where windows still opened, and people still smoked.
