Stating my Case

My writing is normally brief,
And mainly, rhyming is chief.
No matter your current belief,
It's sad if that brings you grief.

Art, while challenging to chart,
Enters us through ear and eye,
Makes us often laugh and cry,
And lingers in our heart.

distance becomes myth
once lived

green booze sugar cubes
unfiltered cigarettes

everything on the table - hands
phone wallet notebook novel

doorways to beyonds
too easily abandoned

dregs in the glass
far away waiter

bemused between drinks
air gapped possibility

the bill or another
or something else

and all that sits beneath above
around each breath each blink

each squeezed blood thud
pen to paper to guide something somewhere

Cut through frosted crust,
And inhale citrus heaven,
Lemon drizzle cake.

Where do you go to?
Every time I reach for you,
you are never there

I suspect you hide away,
so I can’t depend on you

I wake to nightmares,
fever dreams I'd scarce believe,
yet my bank confirms

soft breeze through branches
a bit of southern comfort
in the shade of oaks

Yellow Flower Lady - Aobram

long term memories
like the front door welcome mat
aged and weathered

Sheathed violence. Memories of sun. Clouds.
Ghosts of raindrops fading on the stones.
Absent a bow your arrows
lie quiscient. Razor-tipped presences
upsetting as flies in the sugar,
threatening as your crooked smile.
Lunch leftovers sweating in heat.
At this range there would be no escape
puncture and shock and blood.
Eventually I will stand and walk away
shaking. Anticipation of sharp steel rush
chilling the sweat trickling my spine.

Climate-threatened life
will keep trying ... 'til it can't.
Knowing, we owe more.

this overcast morning seems
... quieter

whole domed religion
poison bubble
rubbed up from the body

an oozing failure
of layers to maintain
adhesion to design

and you with heated needle
quick as knight's lance
prick the skin free

from the raw strain - we'll walk
no further in sunset rose light
but perhaps it will rise again for us
