@PeterLG You have reminded me that I could #AskFedi about recommendations for Metal! With the caveat that what I'm looking for isn't straight Metal, but Symphonic Metal -- bands similar to Within Temptation and Nightwish. I love the combination of soaring soprano with raw base.

Dutch symphonic (gothic?) metal band Within Temptation had a break through hit album in the 2000's called Mother Earth, the title track from the album is a great listen. Not completely my cup of tea, but the vocals and composition are excellent.
