"When the AI bubble bursts, things are not necessarily going to get better. I couldn't possibly cover everything here, but in summary: AI as a whole will change its name to something else, but will still be widely used. Tech companies will become more militarized. Data centers will be left wasting our resources. Savings will lose value and jobs will be lost. Our information ecosystems will be decimated and the internet as we know it will be lost."

This quote sums-up the Tech industry for the past 10-15 years: unrealistic hype and unsustainable blitz-scaling, funded by VC money that's recklessly driven by debt during a time of zero interest-rate policy (ZIRP), has given the promise of vast growth, but in reality pumped a bubble.

Now, the company's customers are unable to export their security keys because of server problems. It looks like they're a short step from getting locked out of using products they bought. If your ebike is bricked because the encryption keys are inaccessible then that's an abominable case of enshittification leading to abandonware.

"My brother and me, we really believe in building [the business] up slowly.” But in the last few years, that changed to a growth-at-all-cost approach, fueled by multiple funding rounds netting over $200 million from investors. But those same investors are no longer willing to fund profitless futures indefinitely in the face of rising interest rates and a bleak economic outlook."

So with a lot of the online services shitting the bed in an effort to become profitable (or failing to like gfycat) does that mean our data wasn't as valuable as once thought?

I thought the idea was these apps made money because they were collecting oodles of data from our phones and selling that to ad/info brokers.

Was that business model flawed and we just didn't notice for 15+ years because interest rates were so low?

Hallo #Techbubble,
Gerne boosten :)
